ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

I can’t say I’m not nervous about what the campaign fallout might be, but the Palins seem to be an absolutely wonderful family who are dealing with something that can happen in any family.
Before leftists and media hacks and Democrat campaign consultants start throwing their stones, they’d better think about the FACTS that the #1 on their ticket was conceived out of wedlock with a man who was married to someone else, and that Obama said in response to a hypothetical about one of his daughters becoming pregnant as a teen that he would not want her to be “punished” with a baby.
Do the Democrats really want to rip into the Palin family’s privacy and values with the “issues” surrounding their #1s beliefs and background?
[ok, well for the vicious nuts on Kos and DU, etc. that’s an easy question to answer — but will it get any traction? I don’t think so....]
I’ve given you my opinion. You don’t like what you’re hearing.
Somehow I get the impression you think this is a positive event for McCain’s campaign.
Nothing could be further from the truth.
EXACTLY!
Obama is an @ss.
No legs on that one.
that would be a mistake for them to make that case.
Sarah will be escorting the groom to the chapel with a shotgun... She is quickly becoming a national folk hero.
This reminds me a little of the Bill McCartney saga in 1989. Coach of the U. of Colorado football team, he announced that his minor daughter was pregnant. The father, it turned out, was the team QB and was terminally ill with stomach cancer. McCartney and his wife and daughter raised the child. I think that episode, among others, became McCartney’s inspiration to found Promise Keepers. And the rest, as they say, is history...
Ugh...Family values is when your kid comes home pregnant you say okay what can we do to help. Not lets got plan the abortion. This Again shows character. I am 42 and I cannot tell you how many of my friends had abortions at our parents hands and and just as many are raising their grandkids. Or say if my kid gets preganant, we say have the baby and I’ll raise it. That goes for boys parents too.
Its a refereshing change and frankly its ANOTHER normal thing about this woman setting her apart from the washington elites. She’s a person of the people not of the government stage show that has gone on for years.
McCain obviously had her in his sights and could have given a better press release about her.
They could have said she is dealing with real family issues like teen pregnancy.
I’m sorry, but I think the whole show on Friday was a bit hypocritical. They made her family seem perfect. It’s not. It’s normal.
Hey newbie, I don't think anyone here thinks it's a "good thing" for unmarried teenagers to have babies, but it happens in the best of families. Nevertheless, this is a PRO-LIFE forum and very few of us consider abortion to even be an option.
Bristol Palin and her family are PROVING pro-life principles as we speak, they are not hiding from them, they are demonstrating a level of class and grace that we should all aspire to.

Then you don’t understand evangelicals, newz. In my experience with them, they are SO accepting and non-judgmental of out-of-wedlock mothers. Yes, they would love for their daughters and sons to wait until they’re married, but will embrace the new baby and be totally supoortive of the new parents, not hide or destroy it all.
Life is God’s gift to each and every one of them/us, regardless of the timing.
Her children are adults making adult decisions.
I don’t appreciate the sexist tones of your posts.
Not at all.
It’s no different from posting blatant racial posts and I won’t stand for it.
OK you have made your revulsion, disgust and total lack of forgiveness totally evident here.
Now at least change your tag...
Amen to that. Who cares. Making this into an issue is stupid. At this day and age, sex, pregnancy, etc... is not taboo. To dwell anymore on this matter is waste of time.
Family values *is* an issue! Human life *is* an issue! To me and everyone I know, Todd & Sarah Palin can’t stand for the issues any stronger than they do already because they are walking the walk in human fallibility.
I mean for goodness sakes, we are all fallible! That’s why there are erasers on pencils and white-out for pens! But a beating heart is different altogether. It’s not a mistake, it’s a consequence. Once a human life has been formed in the womb of a mother, that life is perfect in the Lord’s eyes. Don’t believe for a second that a life is a mistake...it is a consequence of an action.
One cannot help but see the strong *family* values present in the Palin household. Abortion is never their option and I applaud all of them for being so supportive.
I suppose she could have just slaughtered the baby before anyone new. That would have been the liberal way.
Thank God for conservatism, another child shall see the light of day.
You’re saying this young mother-to-be should give up her baby to make “some” voters “happier”?
And have you noticed that any baby is always a fetus until the minute it’s born, but a celebrity baby is a baby from the moment of conception? And how many HOllywood mothers are praised to the skies for having babies without the benefit of marriage?
I’m sure the libs will have nothing to say. After all, isn’t sex a personal matter (a/la Kong Clinton)?
OK - another opportunity for this candidate to show how her family puts into practice their pro-life view. The Palins are going to welcome a precious baby into the family, and I’m sure they will do it with grace and warmth. It may not be what they planned, but not everything in life goes as planned. This family can be an inspiration by the way they handle this situation. I think they already are. Good for them!
