ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

IF TRUE, it's going to be used endlessly to bash socons as hypocrites, as "proof" that only pushing condoms on teens can prevent teen sexual activity
Condoms are not used to prevent sexual activity. They are used during sexual activity to prevent conception and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases. They are not foolproof in either case: Only abstinence is.
and to bash the Palins in particular as trailer trash.
I certainly wouldn't put it past the left to paint as "trailer trash" a family with a teenager who made a teenage mistake but then makes the very adult and mature decision to do the right and honorable thing by accepting the consequences and marrying the father, thus bringing the child into the world as part of a family. The mindset of the left is reprehensible.
Again, IF TRUE (it's not on the official website), this is very sad.
What is sad is what Obama would want to do to the child if it were his daughter who became pregnant. This 17-year-old girl is more responsible than the Democratic candidate for the Presidency.

Big deal. Millions of kids get pregnant every year.

========================================================= I am sensing a double standard on this thread and this is not who we are.

ditto that libh8er, ditto that.

Um, didn’t Reagan and Nancy get a little head start on having Patti? I seem to recall they were married in late March and she was born in October.....

In any event, it’s a non-starter. Part of the appeal of Palin is that she is “one of us” and who hasn’t had something like this happen in their lives, or in the lives of someone close to them? It’s not a time to castigate them, it’s a time to pray for them and the future of this country. I am NOT a McCain KoolAid drinker, but I do know that if HE doesn’t win, Obama does. And that is NOT an alternative I am happy with.

Something else, actually, and I NEVER thought I would say this about McCain -

I have always thought of him merely as someone who did/ said whatever to play for popular opinion.

NOW, as I wrote elsewhere,

If ever there was someone who belongs in “Profiles in Political Courage”, this makes him in the top ten - and heretofore I only thought of him as someone who sucked up to popular opinion.

It adds to my RESPECT for McCain!

Let's be even more specific, shall we?

What Bristol is exhibiting is the antithesis of Democrat party values: Bristol is pregnant with A HUMAN BEING, and she is not 'choosing' to kill the alive unborn child, rather she is taking responsiblity and will be Mothering rather than murdering. THAT drives demcoRATS crazy and they and their sycophancy in media spew their hatred for all to see when life repudiates democrat values.

And the democrat/liberal fools don't even comprehend how their condemnation of Bristol and efforts to shame her for not killing an innocent alive child in the womb has the opposite effect on the average American who is aghast at the vileness on display in democrat media whoredom.

And when we see this evil media reaction to Sarah Palin's embrace of her pregnant daughter and unconditional love for this little child alive in Bristol's womb, We The People tend to ask ourselves 'How did democrats come to believe murder is superior to love? How did the democrat party sink to such a vile depth of moral bankruptcy that they prefer killing an alive unborn child as the way to deal with responsibility for personal behavior?' and perhaps enough democrat Americans will ask 'How in Hell can we vote for such clueless politicians with so much blood on their hands?'

Personally, I am writing a letter of encouragement to Bristol, and I'm writing another letter to thank Sarah Palin for living the values I want leading our nation. Mothering is far and away preferrable to murdering. How did We The People lose sight of that value?

The fact that Palin’s daughter is pregnant changes nothing.

Liberals view hypocrisy as the most devastating charge that can be leveled against anyone.

As a result, they have no moral standards. They view this as an inoculation against charges of hypocrisy leveled against them.

Conservatives, on the other hand, recognize that having a moral standard that one attempts to subscribe to is far better than having no standard at all.

Conservatives also recognize that none of us is perfect, and that people may attempt to follow a standard but occasionally fail in that attempt. We are all imperfect. It is a Christian tenet.

It is why I (and many others) classify ourselves as conservatives. We would rather have a moral standard to aspire to and occasionally fail to meet, rather than no moral standards at all.

He cannot get rid of Palin because of this. I just think he should have made this information available before he announced Palin was his VP pick, or he should have picked another candidate.

McCain did not handle this well.

Again. You are assuming the pregnancy wasn’t planned.
You don’t know very many teen girls, do you?

I don’t think anyone is saying it’s a good thing. Were you ever young? Did you ever give in to some temptation? I know I did and I regret some things I did but life goes on and hopefully we learn from our mistakes. It’s the path to maturity. We can’t live our children’s lives for them. We teach them right from wrong and pray for them. And we are there for them when they fail. and they will fail. We all fail. Families are to support and love each other. Our church supports a lot pregnancy center for unwed mothers. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone.

To reuse a recent line, this thread will separate the pro-life walkers from the pro-life talkers.

You have two issues:
1) Life of babies
2) Opposition to sex outside of marriage

There is some idea that heaping public shame will stop #2. But then again that will increase #1 as people try to avoid public shame.

Truth is that #1 more important than #2. Lots of people will see exactly what sort of problems #2 creates just by this event. So no need for #2 right now....choose #1.

If this is true, the MSM is going to crucify that poor child, not to mention what they’re going to do to Governor Palin. How sad for this family.

If they do, they are going to regret it big time. It will backfire on them. Too many other families have to face this same thing everyday and won't appreciate the ridicule.

LOL..I had not looked at it that way, but as you can see I am a "walker". But jwalsh07 could have verified that, having seen me walk up Constitution Avenue to the Supreme Court on at least one occasion.
