ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

“Everyone sins/ makes mistakes, G-d explicitly tells us this, its what one does about the sin/mistake that determines ones character.
Barack Obama made clear that if his daughter made a mistake he wouldnt want to see her punished with a baby.”
You raise a strawman...please don’t do that.
I made the point that teen pregnancy is not OK and the parents need to do more parenting. Forgive her sure but work on the issues that have children thinking sex at 17 is Okay.
Family first.
“work on the issues that have kids thinking that sex at 17 is okay”
I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be flip, but the point is, KIDS DON’T THINK! (I have teenagers . . .)
Wow! I hadn’t thought of that.
This means that Miss Palin gets to stay in Alaska with her child and its father...and her mom might be rather far away. Hope her in-laws-to-be are good people.
“Not just the tabloids, the MSM:”
This looks like a typical “in your face” from McCain. Those of us that are scare to death of Obama just don’t need this. There were plenty of great candidates to pick from without the noise.
The left will point to the “hypocrisy” of failed teaching of abstinence - which is what I believe in. That is what we teach. If I had pregnant daughter at 17 the last thing I’d do is expose it to the media.
This is not good. One really has to wonder if McCain made the best choice.
How did McCain handle this badly? How would you have handled it? The Palin youngster isn't running for anything.
It had better go away. I thought children of candidates were off the table. Also, with the Rep. VP candidate being "every woman" and "middle American family" the MSM and Libs had better watch their steps.
Right. For males, the judicial branch is not fully formed until the mid twenties. His brain is not fully developed. [Something to tell your son.]
As for a female, hormones kick in that make her gullible toward male advances — now a scientific fact. [Source — Unprotected, written by an anonymous college counselor {ivy league trained psychiatrist}, printed by Sentinel.]
I’m late to the thread.
Today’s culture is conditioning persons to a ignorant victim mentality. The “kids” of today were once responsible in days past.
“She isn’t being fair to her family by exposing them to all this, and, sorry to say, she and McCain aren’t being fair to the country. “
Exactly.
This is about McCain’s judgement. How did we get in this mess where McCain is our only defense against Obama?
My sister married at 15, she was pregnant. They have been married for 41 years and have 4 children and too many grandchildren to count. My sister in law married at 15, too, and has been married for 43 years with 4 children and 6 grandchildren. Just because they are young doesn’t mean they won’t make it. They have a better chance having been taught good family values then the libs who marry at 30.
This is Alaska we are talking about, the culture is different there. It’s like a cross between the Modern lower 48 and U.S. pioneer days...The youngsters are probably light years mature compared to the ones down here.
Who are we to make any suggestions, except not to have an abortion? Can you imagine if someone found out they had adopted the grandchild of the VP of the U.S.? That works well.
First of all I do not consider dobson particularly relevant to me. He has no more standing than any one else. In other words I really do not care that much what he says. I do not worship at his altar. However, I do agree with forgiveness of the truly repentant. But that does not eliminate the transgression. History is not wiped clean. This is about both spiritual AND temporal consequences.
The Saints of the Free Republic disapprove of McCain’s mishandling of this. He must throw Palin under the bus, for the Wise Ones have so spoken. So must it be.
Sin is sin. Only the mother of a sinless family need apply. I shall seek to tap the Virgin Mary. Perhaps she might be willing to run this gauntlet, but I doubt it.
“The most disturbing thing out of this mess is how comfortably people accept the lurid premise of owning a commanding view of personal lives and standing in judgment on them. It’s like a bad prime-time reality show and it disgusts me.”
I’m sorry but I DO judge the moral character and personal lives of the politicians that I intend to vote for.
I still think that adoption is the best thing for all involved in such situations. Even in Alaska, teens are not ideal parents.
The Saints of the Free Republic are far more pure than Dobson, and wise. They are in touch with America and know how to win an election. Dobson is far too foolish and anti-morals for them to pay any heed. The Wise Ones have spoken.
> So we are supposed to choose our leaders based on how the media might treat them?
Not necessarily, but it is a factor in their electability, like it or not (and I *don’t* like it).
My larger point had to do with the demands on Sarah Palin’s attention and the demands of the highest offices in the land in a time of war and crisis. While I am sure that being a parent and being a world leader is completely compatible, having new babies around — one of which being a special needs baby and one being from your underage daughter — I just think that takes it over the top. Family comes first, when it comes to babies and times of extreme challenge. That’s what I believe.
There is a reason many parents take advantage of parental leave — both mothers and fathers but especially mothers. And this is leave from jobs like IT Supervisor, Requisition Coordinator, etc. Not the highest job in the land, with hundreds of millions depend on your ability to focus and get things done.
You may disagree. That’s fine. This is my opinion based on my experience and knowledge. There’s no need for name-calling, shouting, or getting really ugly about this. I have to tell you I have been shocked and quite saddened at some of the replies I have gotten about this. No, I am not a troll, or a liberal, or an idiot, or hate mothers, or hate fathers.
So I have spoken my piece, and I think I am done. Back to praying for the country.
