That being said I can't believe all the freepers giving this out of wedlock preganancy a pass.

There are very few people giving it a pass. You are reading way too much from them and not the others. The others are saying, yes, we have personal qualms about Palin's daughter, but none about the candidate herself. And we don't think it will affect election results in any significant way.

OTOH, posters such as yourself, whatever your concerns might be, are only fueling the media's claim that this will split conservatives. The media's #1 goal is to keep conservatives home. But real conservatives do not stay home over a pregnancy of teenage daughter when it is handled conservatively.

“Yes having the baby is better than abortion but it should not have happened in the first place.”

Yeah, well it happened. Get over it.

Exactly. We talk until we are blue in the face (and I know MY parents did, as well), but unless you chaperone your children until they are 30, they’re going to make some decisions that have lifetime consequences.

PS - MY mother was 17 when I was born, and look how well I turned out! ;-)

>>>>>Sad to say if this was a democrat candidate many of the same freepers who are saying it's no big deal would be getting out the torches to burn the candidate.

You make some excellent points.

It follows the tend in recent years. Many conservatives who stood with Reagan in the 1980`s and backed Newt and his Contract With America in 1994, have turned out to be something less then conservative these days. Sadly, they've abandoned conservative principles and moved back to a more moderate or even liberal set of politics.

McCain still beats the crap out of Obama and Palin is light years ahead of Biden. But McCain's judgment on this issue is highly questionable and suspect.

Ok, start collecting rocks...we'll stone her to death. We'll show her our righteous indignation!

...but it should not have happened in the first place.

Well duh! Neither should house fires...but they do.

I bet that girl would rather be pelted with stones right now than put her family through this. God bless the Palins. And God bless McCain for not flinching.

And Dick Cheney's daughter's gay. So what?

Yes and no doubt. They should be in Iran where they can enjoy stoning women.

Since you're asking me. Yes, temper tantrum after temper tantrum, post after post.

Based upon your now proven inability to engage in a meaningful debate, I'll try not to be let down by yet more fallacious ad hominem attacks. It's a real shame you can't stand up for yourself and respond to any of the eight (now 14) questions I repeatedly posed to you and even summarized for you in posts #1985 and #2070.

Btw, you supported Willard Myth Romney for POTUS and VPOTUS? Right?

No, but nice try at changing the subject away from your inability to defend your weak arguments. I preferred Mitt to McCain, but I donated only to Fred. My vice-presidential preference was for Bobby Jindal.

You have really embarrassed yourself on this thread, Reagan Man. Anyone who reads through this thread will see that you are a nothing but cowardly troll who only threw pebbles and refused to follow up. You did more to discredit your position and those on your side than anything I could have done on my own. I sincerely thank you.

Yeah, well it happened. Get over it.

75% out of wedlock in the black community and 30-45% in the white community. Sorry I won't "get over it" This is a disease upon our nation and it needs to be addressed.

You keep questioning McCain's judgment on selecting Palin. Who should he have selected instead? Please put up your choice and defend it.

“Jeesh folkes what has happened to our countries morals when conservatives are giving a pass just because the candidate is Republican?”

First off, there’s enough judgmentality already from the giddy left. I don’t want to see a hen pecking party.

Secondly, they are getting married.

And there’s something else:

What has happened is that life begins when the mother wills it, ever since Roe. Those justices dragged down the bar, not us. Remember the law passed to help prevent abortions in the military? Congress members felt good about preventing abortions through not punishing women in uniform who became pregnant. This is the reality of our new and ‘improved’ culture.

So yes, I’ll honor any mother who keeps her baby.

My vice-presidential preference was for Bobby Jindal.

Finally! Now defend that choice, what does Jindal bring to the ticket?

This baby isn’t going to be born out of wedlock. Conceived, yes. Born, no.

Getting married for the sake of the child is something that used to happen in this country. Not so much anymore. What these kids are doing should be applauded.

Once we’re done stoning them for getting into the mess in the first place, of course.

The timing on the announcement is not really good.

Nonsense. It's covered up by Gustav and interesting enough to keep Obama off the headlines for another day. The only way Obama got any press time today was when he came out to support Palin. The coverage I heard today was like a pro-life infomercial--beautiful babies and beautiful mothers. Even Obama sounded pro-life. This has been a perfect bridge between the Palin announcement on Friday and the Republican Convention starting Tuesday.

We own the cycle, God willing, through Thursday night.

Thanks for those responses.

I don’t honestly believe the “hypothesis” this poster put forward, which seems a bit conspiratorial for my taste, but I’m interested in the general politics involved - all of it. McCain has made some contradictory statements about abortion, and to be honest it looks from the outside like many conservatives are in a serious quandary over this issue, which I think the thread reflects - glass houses and personal responsibility, abstinence and birth control, pregnancy and marriage, work and family. I don’t think that’s a mark of poor politics, incidentally; the heartfelt arguments are how any of us get anywhere, in my opinion.

Ironically, the Republican ticket may have put gender on the map every bit as much as the Democratic one did - maybe moreso. I for one didn’t see that coming, but I don’t subscribe to either party.
