ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Great points, TomasUSMC.
Then your post #2226 was BS.
if Reagan was running TODAY, given his marital status when Patti was conceived, would you vote for Reagan today?

If he kept it secret yes, then it was discovered, as is the case with MCCain/Palin, I would hold it against him.
“I think I need to join the church a lot of these people go to. You can do any darn thing you please as long as you are sorry afterwords.”
OK, Palin’s daughter should confess she is damned. Of course then she might as well commit any sin she would like. Would that make you happy?
Hi all, I’ve just come over from the Guardian to post a question - an honest one, no intent to troll. Someone there (a quite conservative poster) has suggested that McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin for VP candidate was a calculated one based upon Bristol’s pregnancy in a bid to gain the pro-life vote. I never thought of the possibility myself but I was wondering what Free Republic posters might think of the idea.
For what it’s worth, I sincerely wish the best for Bristol Palin and her family, as this can’t be easy for them. It’s tough enough to be pregnant at 17 without much of the world looking on and judging you. And fair is fair, I’ll answer any questions, as honestly as I can, as well.
This has been an interesting thread, so thanks.
My prayers are with you beckysueb and with your daughter and all those involved. May this situation bring unforseen blessings into your life.
My life seemed ripped to shreds when my daughter became pregnant. I thought her life was over. Little did I realize then, that her life was just beginning. Of course her life was much harder than I would have wanted it to be, but she has been a good daughter and a good mother.
Life isn’t always under our control. Sometimes difficulties come through choices, but fate happens to us all. My daughter’s second son was diagnosed with leukemia when he was only three years old. THIS was a genuine tragedy - her early, unplanned, previous pregnancy paled in comparison. I simply wished I had known more at that time in my life so that I could have given her the love my daughter needed and deserved.
Love your daughter beckysueb, you will never regret it!
What I find ironic. Sarah Palin is the next Ronald Reagan. and you are trying to chase her back to Alaska.
See? Very odd that one. I thought she was playing dumb but now I don’t think she knows what her “friend” has been spewing on this thread. And if she does, then she is total BS.
What in the heck did this thread devolve into when I was away?
I like Laz too, BTW. I tracked his last posts a few weeks ago. One involved wearing a sock somewhere. Yeah, let’s free Lazamataz.
No.
His nomination of Sarah Palin was definately partially in order to motivate pro-lifer’s like myself. However, Sarah Palin was already a pro-life champion before the situation with Bristol came to light. So, I doubt that McCain chose her due to Bristol’s pregnancy but I think he correctly figured that pro-lifer’s wouldn’t judge Sarah Palin over this and instead would be excited that she encouraged her daughter to do the right thing rather than taking the easy road out.
oh, please. So violation of the Levirate wasn’t quite a capital offense, but coitus interruptus was? Or the coitus interruptus was the straw somehow that broke the camel’s back? Give me a break. The twin offenses were failure to honor the Levirate (by far the biggest) and refusal to consummate the marriage (second). “spilling seed” (much less masturbation) still has nothing to do with it.
Many biblical passages began to be misinterpreted in the middle ages, and this was one of the worst offenders. Few serious biblical scholars these days agree with this nonsensical interpretation arising from medieval moral codes having little to do with actual biblical mores and anthropological practice.
There are other biblical arguments against premarital sex. There are few against basic contraception, some Catholic doctrine notwithstanding. Onan has nothing to do with either.
No, I absolutely do not think it was a calculated vote based on Bristol’s pregnancy. I think he believed in Sarah’s abilities, her grit, and determination. Of course, he then weighed Bristol’s situation . As you can see this from this thread, this topic is not making conservatives jump up and down, but we believe in pro-life. And I believe John McCain saw that Sarah and her family lived up to their beliefs and this gave him respect for her and chose her in spite of the scandal that could occur.
By the way, thank you for identifying yourself : )
I think he had the pro-life vote prior to Palin and if not, certainly after Palin, considering she willingly gave birth to a down’s syndrome baby just 5 months ago.
I had already predicted a rope-a-dope potential with this pregnancy. Note that even Obama is showing Britney more respect than some FReepers. [If BO senses a trap, it must be pretty obvious.] I bet the DU is watching this too. Now they have a chance to laugh at us — FReeper Funnies.
Very bizarre...makes no logical sense.
