ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

Seems Palin has been accused of pressuring members of her Admin. to fire a police officer who divorced her sister.

A Trooper who was suspended for using a taser on his child, drinking on the job and threatening to kill his father-in-law.

That story ran its course and flamed out yesterday... try to keep up. We're onto the "Sara's a bad mother and her daughter's a whore" phase of the leftist smear campaign.

One thing that strikes me on this thread is the amazing acceptance of premarital sex. Why is that? Because of the couple who engaged in it, one is the daughter of one of ours?

_______________________________

Lest I seem to approve of premarital sex, allow me to say something. I’m 48 and grew up during the promiscious 70s. I know from experience how devestating premarital sex can be. I’m not approving of Bristol Palin’s behavior, period— under any circumstances. I’m saying that the Palin family has dealt with a crisis situation showing: responsibility, maturity, forgiveness, and love.

It’s more than what I was offered when I messed up my life.

Bristol Pailn has my empathy. I stand by her family who are tackling a situation of immense religious repercussions with personal responsibility asking nobody for anything. That’s class and it deserves respect. They have mine. They also have my VOTE.

Actually, there’s a lot more insulting things in life, but thanks for your thoughts.

Am absence of human kindness is always sad to witness.

I am not proud of Freepers this day on this issue.

I agree with you and with Xena.

Life is not easy. Especially for the young. It is an ancient issue as old as humankind. And kindness is always the way to heal it. This is the lesson and wisdom from my Scottish ancestors, and the echos of matrilineal ancient society.

Our job is to help, and to empower, not to decry and denigrate. The later just causes much more suffering than need be, and makes tremendous spiritual obstacles for the righteous and smug.

Nothing more to read here. I will move on.

I truly love this family. They are a real American family with love and respect for each other. Not afraid to welcome another human being to their table, regardless of the circumstances. This is a Christian family, the type that speaks to the best of what we are about.

I thought John McCain had made a shrewd choice of a running mate..a selection that electrified the conservative movement. Now I see it was more than that. I congratulate John McCain for a courageous choice. I am impressed.

Amen, FRiend. I feel the same.

I can recheck my Bible, but I don’t see anything about birth control in the scripture. I do see injunctions against premarital sex—but I also see injunctions against eating shellfish. I seriously doubt that teenagers who have premarital sex are going to Hell, and if that’s the case, parents who protect their children *certainly* aren’t going to Hell.

I teach abstinence, but no one’s going to Hell just because they helped protect their child from changing their lives dramatically because of a moment of weakness.

I have to question the judgment of a woman who would allow a 16 or 17 year old girl to get pregnant.

Really? I did a lot of stupid stuff when I was 17. How bout you, do you blame your mom? Your comment seems fraught with limited life experiences. Maybe you've just been blessed, I don't know. But things like this happen in a lot or very normal good families. How it's handled itself is a great test of character. The way it was handled speaks volumes to me about this family and it's all good.

Nope, I was not. And as I’ve said on this thread, somehow - through the miracle of birth-control pills and condoms - I managed to avoid getting pregnant.

It’s not that hard.

I believe the poster you are asking has stated earlier in this thread that she knew how not to get pregnant back in her slutty days.

>>She was however part of a family that raised her to be strong enough, and a family that supported her enough, to give her the strenght to made the right decisions regadless of the pressure to “just have an abortion.”<<

If so, why wouldn’t she have been given the strength to make the right decision not to have sex outside marriage?

I was best man at a “shotgun” wedding, and I was concerned about whether the couple would make it, but some 33 years later, after 2 more children, they are still together and loving each other. Were there problems? Of course. Was it hard? Yes, but the commitment was there, and the child was not aborted.

We don’t always know what God will do with our “mistakes.” Far be it from me to judge.

If the dems try to exploit this, it will bite them... hard.

My dear, I am not saying this to sound bitchy in the slightest, but between your returns and your rampant periods, I have no idea what you’re saying.

Uncalled for. You’ve been here long enough to know we don’t call female FReepers sluts, or infer it by referring to their “slutty days.” You owe Xenalyte an apology.

Now the Alaska Independence Party (secession from the US) says that Palin addressed their 2008 convention. Libs are making a big deal out of it.

She did. Here's the VIDEO.

Pretty much a benign "Welcome and Enjoy Your Convention" message.

I've never seen lefties so scared. This is hysterical.
