ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

There is another thread of a Time article that says that Palin is not an abstinence-only preacher. But maybe you have better information.

I was speaking of Mr. and Mrs. Palin sharing childrearing duties while she served as Veep or POTUS.

Yep - just like most traditional families and we seem to get by just fine. While VPOTUS and POTUS are demanding jobs, there actually are jobs even more so. Not that I have one of them though... LOL

Mandatory preschool and “small class sizes” are another way the unions try to expand their ranks.

How can Freepers be OK with teen pregnancy and not have any concerns about the parents.

Is that a question? If so, your sentence should contain a question mark.

Any intelligent conservative will be concerned about parents' responses to situations beyond their control.

Liberal parents would most likely encourage an abortion in the case of a teen pregnancy.

We know the Palins are pro-life and that Sarah is anti-abortion in cases of rape and incest. That's as pro-life as one can be.

She respects and honors the human being her daughter is carrying. She is giving her daughter support and encouraging her to cary the baby to term.

Your concerns are witless.

Please... Reagan Man DOES have the right to bring up the good points and concerns he has made, and do Xenalyte, and the several others who have expressed concerns.

Now there is a fallacious straw-man argument for all to see! I never wrote that Reagan Man or anyone else doesn't "have the right to bring up the good points and concerns". What I did question was to ask him which of my remarks were "over the top, out of line, or dead wrong" since he hadn't even attempted to respond or refute any of them. Those attacking the Palin's on this thread seem to avoiding any real debate on the issues, instead relying only on repeated attack mantras. Their troll-like tactics on this issue topic are becoming increasingly obvious. I am beginning to think that this is less about Bristol's unfortunate pregnancy and more about a bunch of disaffected Ronpaulians, Romneyites, and Obamanics attempting to hurt the McCain campaign.

I’m not sure what to think. For a second there I thought the world was not coming to an end and human beings weren’t killing their children.

It was too good to be true. Liberals not killing their offspring like rats.

You can’t blame me for thinking people would get it. I even read some threads on DU and Daily Kos where people were disputing the gorebull warning nonsense. They’re not all stupid. Just 97% of them.

Excellent Post, dschapin.

For those upset regarding this matter, if you have young children, may they never disappoint you. If you have not had a child, may God give you the patience, love, and wisdom to understand that which you have not experience yet. From an older woman blessed with many grandchildren, some already grown. A little pearl of been there done that. We raise our children to live right and pray they will heed our words of wisdom. We build a strong foundation that even though some may waver, eventually they always return back to their roots. No matter how you try to guide them, some has to do it their own way.

God Bless the Palin family for standing behind their daughter. God Bless the Palin family for not pushing their daughter into an abortion.

If anything this has shown me that our future Vice President has a strong character and lives the walk.

Are you kidding? And if she were a man, would this be an issue to you?? Absolutely. Down Syndrome kids are wonderful. These days they live to be adults of 50. A generation ago it was 25. There are medical issues at stake. It's spectacular that she is pro-life and loves her newborn son as the blessing he is. Perhaps if we got some clarification about her husband quitting work if she wins, staying home with the baby, assisting the daughter with hers, I wouldn't be bugged. There have been no indications of this. It just isn't my value system. This is not the time to go uproot a family, move to D.C. and be one heartbeat away from the presidency. Male or female candidate. I am still voting for McCain. I just wish he picked Bobby Jindal who did amazing this week. Governor Palin is great. It's just not her time IMHO. It's just an opinion is all.

EVERY argument the left uses for sex education, abortion, homosexuality, etc. has ALWAYS been a straw man.

RE: “Big deal. Millions of kids get pregnant every year. A parent can not control everything a child does when the child is not in their presence.”

Agree. What can you do? Kids will be kids and I know of several right now who are in the same situation, and for the record, they are NOT from poor/immigrant/welfare families or similar, nor are they “celebrities” who think nothing of this scenario. “Good” parents like the Palins cannot prevent things like this from happening. It’s just plain impossible.

What on earth does this have to do with the election? The pregnant girl is not running for office — I’d say the John Edwards affair and baby mess was a lot meatier than this; let’s dredge that one up again!

Just as Bristol Palin isn't the VP candidate, neither is Ann Durham running for President. (And Ann didn't have an abortion either). Barack Obama has a lot of stuff that can be attacked. Mom shouldn't be part of it.

Excellent point; concur

There are stark foreign and domestic policy differences between the two campaigns that will affect all of our lives, as well as the lives of those around the world. These are the issues that matter most in this election.

The world is already dangerous. It becomes more dangerous if Obama is Commander in Chief of US Armed Forces, as he will make us a soft, weak target through his policy decisions which will in turn be supported and confirmed by a Democrat Congress and the liberal judges he will appoint and they will confirm. We need McCain/Palin to win and the Republicans to hold the Congress to as close to no net loss as possible.

Of course unmmarried pregnacy is wrong. However, they are now engaged to be married. BTW, Did you vote for Reagan? Reagan was probably or best president. You do realize that the Reagans married on March 4, 1952 and Patti was born Oct 21, 1952, right?

I wasn’t old enough to vote for Reagan. My first vote was cast in 1992.

Would you have cast your vote for Reagan? Aren't you glad enough of us did?

Sarah Palin will make a great VP.

No, I don’t think they do.

I would be happier if the child was being put up for adoption to two adults in a stable happy marriage.

Oh sure. That’s exactly what her plan was from the very beginning. I guess I should send her a thankyou note.

Nice try.
