Romney to meet with Utah GOP delegates By Lisa Riley Roche Deseret News Published: Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008 12:45 a.m. MDT 0 comments RELATED CONTENT | E-MAIL | PRINT | FONT + - McCain's choice alters campaign Utah delegates praise Palin ST. PAUL, Minn. Mitt Romney may not be on the GOP ticket, but Utah delegates to the Republican National Convention will no doubt give him a hero's welcome when he visits them at their Monday morning breakfast meeting. "Next to John McCain and Sarah Palin, right now there is not a hotter name at this convention than Mitt Romney," Utah Republican Party Chairman Stan Lockhart told the Deseret News. "The fact we're getting him is pretty spectacular, given the fact he already knows where we stand."
Romney is focusing his attention during the four-day convention that begins Monday in St. Paul on swing states like Michigan and Ohio. But after repeated requests, he's making his first stop in Minnesota the Sofitel Hotel in nearby Bloomington to greet the Utah delegation.
After all, Utah gave him an overwhelming 90 percent of the vote in the state's Feb. 5 GOP presidential primary and at least $6 million in contributions to his campaign. Romney, the leader of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, like the majority of Utahns, dropped out of the presidential race in late February.
Story continues below He was seen as a top candidate to join McCain on the November ballot as the Arizona senator's running mate. But McCain stunned the political world on Friday by naming Palin, 44, Alaska's youngest ever and first female governor. Romney is set to campaign Sunday with McCain and Palin at a "Road to the Convention Rally" at a baseball stadium outside St. Louis.
On Tuesday, Romney is scheduled to address the convention. His speaking slot has not yet been announced. But as a likely presidential candidate in 2012 if the Republicans fail to keep the White House, Romney is expected to speak in prime time.
While in Minnesota, Romney will also hold fundraisers for congressional candidates, serve a meal in a Salvation Army soup kitchen, speak to the conservative Christian International Democratic Union on "The Future of the Republican Party," and address a meeting of the Republican Governors Association.

How dare you. Your revisionist Mittbot history won’t be tolerated. As much as you try and change Mitt’s past to suit your present, you will NOT be allowed to try and play like Mitt’s supporters and their vile and disgusting sleaze campaign against Fred and Jeri Thompson didn’t happen on this web site.
If you persist, I WILL take the time to go back and repost examples of their twisted attempts to slime the Thompsons. In the process of doing my doing this, the phenomenon of paid Mitt supporters who only appear here to pimp Mitt when he’s in the running for something will become obvious to all as well.
Would you like me to do this? Frankly, I’m inclined to not waste my time since that slimeball is finally out of our hair and won’t be representing our party in any official capacity. However, if you persist in your revisionist history, I will be forced to hound you with the words of your slimy brethren. You won’t like that, I can assure you.
How about we start by not letting the Democrats pretend to be 'conservative' members of our party? That would go a long way towards unity.
I fixed your post for you. Stop trying to divide people by their religion. Mitt Romney is slime. Pure and simple. If he were Hindu, the story would be no different.
Probably an ambassadorship to a country containing vast Mormon archeological ruins...
Who knew he had such power!
The MORMONs® do NOT consider themselves a mere denomination of Christianity.
The first salvos on the Fred war were from the few Mitt “supporter”s here. The most disgusting such as calling Jeri a stripper and a whore we from that side as well. No such attack was every made against Anne.
The more I see you Mitt folks protest and whine about how "unfair" thing were for Mitt now that he is out completely just proves to me that it was never about conservatism, but about Mitt. Fortunately Conservatism won for a change.
Sheesh, it never stops does it...
Thankfully very few bought what the Mittroids were selling...
You’ll have lots of volunteers to help.
And I haven’t seen you for a while.
How’re things? :)
Things are good. How about you? :)
I took a bit of time off after Fred dropped out. I needed a break after all that.
Recently though, I noticed that there was increased Mittwit presence around here trying to gin up phony support for Romney as VP, so I rejoined the land of the living to do my part (however minuscule that might be) to help stick the final nail the coffin of Myth’s presidential ambitions.
I’m very excited about Palin. It even seemed that picking her was partly a nod to Fred Thompson supporters, who were the ones that first began to mention Sarah last year. Now that she’s on board, I’m almost as excited as I would be if Fred was on the ticket.
Yeah, Governors have a nasty habit of being the party leader in their respective states (including former ones, if they are the last of their party to have held said office). Huckster is happy to have a nearly all-Dem federal delegation and legislature.

Interesting comment considering now that Mitt has been bypassed by another VP pick while we are being told everyone needs to be forgiven. I understand that perfectly well, at least I am being consistent. Somethings not right with this picture. Mitt sure was beat over the head with a sledge hammer over how awful he had been in the past and we should never forgive him. I think it is really interesting how people pick and choose who they are going to forgive.

Not very loving or consistent are you in light of yesterday’s news? Why would you wish that a good man has no chance at all to be President? Oh I remember why he shouldn’t have any chance, because he made a mistake in the past and we can’t look past anyone’s mistakes. No one can ever change, we are all perfect. Right, I wonder how many people are taking your advice today? I know the media is trying to make a big case for that position today. Do you feel at least a little guilty for calling people names? I see you aren’t perfect either, perfect people don’t call others names. You need to grow up.
What are you talking about?
Why would you wish that a good man has no chance at all to be President?
I wouldn't. Oh, you mean Mitt Romney. That's simple: he's not a good man. He's a liar and a charlatan who will say anything to get elected.
Oh I remember why he shouldnt have any chance, because he made a mistake in the past and we cant look past anyones mistakes.
A mistake? He made a lifetime's worth of mistakes. He's the offspring of two liberal Republicans who ran as a liberal Republican, governed as a liberal Republican and then expected us to believe the laughable story that he had decided to become a conservative just in time to run for President.
No one can ever change, we are all perfect. Right, I wonder how many people are taking your advice today?
Yeah, I can see you Mittwits just itching to use the Palin pregnancy as an excuse to start bashing her and advocating for your liberal again. When you start again (and you will), we'll all be here to smack you back down again.
I know the media is trying to make a big case for that position today. Do you feel at least a little guilty for calling people names?
I don't feel the least bit guilty about smacking down liberalism on a conservative forum. You people expect to come here pimping your liberal without being questioned. Well, too bad.
You need to grow up
You first. Liberalism is a child's ideology. Stop advocating for it on this forum in the form of a greasy MA politician.
So, you compare the actions of a 17 year old child with Slick Willard’s lifetime of liberal activism?
I think this whole line of thinking needs to be examined.
Please explain yourself.
Listen lady, am I bashing Palin? No. Just trying to point out some inconsistencies by people like you. By the way, Fred isn’t VP either, so get over it. Stop calling names. You obviously feel complete freedom to call names. By contrast, I have to be careful what I say to you. I don’t understand how you feel comfortable getting away with it. I have to be careful when pointing out that you are being hypocritical. It’s not about attacking Palin, it’s about holding you accountable and you know it.
“So, you compare the actions of a 17 year old child with Slick Willards lifetime of liberal activism?”
How treacherous can you get? Whoever said ANYTHING about Bill Clinton? Or comparing anything to a 17 year old? You are so manipulative, it’s unreal. I would have to tell your friends to be careful. You are a piece of work. I’ve got news for you, you sound like a liberal, that’s the kind of crap they pull. Wow, I am shocked, but then again, I shouldn’t be.
