The U.S. Border Patrol's largest union local has asked President Bush to put an end to the scores of Mexican military incursions into the United States that have put Border Patrol agents at risk of being injured or killed.
"It is disgraceful that Border Patrol agents are put in harm's way and our government doesn't do everything reasonably within its power to protect us from marauding Mexican soldiers and others," said Edward "Bud" Tuffly II, head of Local 2544 of the National Border Patrol Council (NBPC) in Tucson.
"Without a forceful response to these illegal incursions, an agent will eventually be seriously wounded or killed. It is only a matter of time," Mr. Tuffly said. "The incursions will not stop until the Mexican military units and their commanders are held accountable for their actions."
In a letter Saturday to Mr. Bush, Mr. Tuffly asked the president to "take a strong stand against" Mexican military incursions.
He said Mexican soldiers have made hundreds of incursions into the United States and that some of them resulted in agents coming under gunfire and being detained at gunpoint.
"It is a documented fact that the Mexican military is corrupt and is involved in protecting drug cartels, smugglers and other criminals," said Mr. Tuffly, a veteran Border Patrol agent.
The NBPC represents all of the agency's 16,000 nonsupervisory agents. Mr. Tuffly's local is the union's largest, with about 3,000 members.
White House officials said Wednesday that they had not received the letter and referred inquiries to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

I’ haven’t been enthusiastic about McCain’s Shamnesty moves, but I think he’ll defend the border against outright military incursion far better than Bush has or BHO will.
He hasn’t urged much coming from Arizona. I don’t have any faith in the guy.
If the US Government won’t do anything to stop these armed incurrsions by a foreign nation, then perhaps the American people will just have to take care of the matter themselves.
Is the Mexican military chasing the drug dealers?
Or helping them?
Helping. They are on the same team.
“If the US Government wont do anything to stop these armed incurrsions by a foreign nation, then perhaps the American people will just have to take care of the matter themselves.”
Nail... meet hammer.
Taking action on this would require Jorge to acknowledge that there is a problem with his beloved Mexico. No one should hold their breath.
The really sad part is that most republicans and jorge could care less about the united states border and the constitution of this country.
The Mexicans will get the message.
Did your mommy tell you that?
The protection of the American people from the invasion of foreign military rests squarely with the President of The United States.
He should have the U.S. Military on the border, not some retired volunteers.
Where is the Arizona National Guard??
The last time I responded to a post on this subject I got banned so I will start this post a little differently.
The first and primary reason for the existence of our federal government is to protect our borders from all outside invaders. An incursion by members of a foreign military who are armed and who detain our federal agents at gunpoint should automatically trigger an armed response from our government. If a person is held at gunpoint then we can also automatically assume that they are being held under threat of death so deadly force is instantly into play.
No Law enforcement officer would just let a bank robber run away and nether should the military or federal agents let these invaders just run away. The have committed a grave offence against our government, our sovereignty, and our people.
These invaders should be cut off from retreat, and apprehended. It these same invaders chose to resist using deadly force then the military and/or federal agents should respond in kind. All necessary firepower should be brought to bare insuring that the criminal invaders are not be allowed to escape. If there is authorized use of deadly force and causalities have occurred all wounded should be given medical attention and all foreign military personnel should be treated per the Geneva Convention as mandated for POWs.
If fatalities are sustained the battle scene should be preserved and secured for further investigation. True and exact images should be accomplished in mass and well distributed to the world media so that they can ascertain exactly what happened, where it happened, and what the true implications of the invasion and the armed response to that military invasion really are.
Anything less than a response of this nature by our government is a total and complete failure to uphold the oath that each and every soldier, sailor, marine, and airman take when they raise their right hand and take the oath of enlistment, that each member of congress, and the executive branch pledged by oath when sworn into their elected position.
I wholeheartedly demand that deadly force be used when necessary to protect our borders from the armed invasion by a military force or drug runners!!!!!!! I am in good company in this demand because it is also what the constitution of our great nation demands!!!!!
The only pertinent question that remains is why arent those who have pledged before God to protect our people, our sovereignty, and our borders from foreign-armed invasion doing what they are swore to do?
Is that better?
>>”...perhaps the American people will just have to take care of the matter themselves.”<<
I fully agree. It’s not a choice, it’s our duty!
Engaged forces have the right of pursuit and as far as I'm concerned "the world" can take my word for the whys and hows of a map coordinate and the only agency with jurisdiction would be a depoliticized military court.
