Democrats may be blasting Sarah Palin as a doctrinaire conservative, and Republicans may be embracing her for the same reason, but her husband and oldest son are independents.
Or, more precisely, their party affiliation is listed as undeclared on voter registration records retrieved from the Alaska Division of Elections.
Todd Palin, husband of the Alaska governor, hasnt been affiliated with a party since he first registered to vote while he was in his early 20s, in 1989 the year after he married Sarah Palin. And Track Palin, their 19-year-old son, registered as undeclared when he became eligible to vote last year.
Todd Palin, a regular voter, could have cast his ballot for his wife in her 2006 Republican primary against incumbent Gov. Frank Murkowski because the Alaska Republican Party allows those registered undeclared and nonpartisan to vote in the partys primaries.

If nothing else the Palin choice has pushed off the front and editorial pages any real discussion of Obama's speech. Hard to believe, but true!
you know..every agency anywhere can get any document they want..voter registration records etc..with the glaring exception of obamas actual birth certificate..hmmm, wonder how that can be..
If they are not Republicans, then they must be Obama supporters. There is no other option in life.
I’m a reg Independent.....and this is news becauuuuseee?
Hockey Mom’s for Palin!!!
(you know the rest)
Yep, beginning to see some libertarian leanings here and there all over—the seed is both dormant in many, and recently planted anew in a few others—it will bear fruit.

They could be aliens...
Given what the Republican party was in Alaska before Mrs. Palin cleaned it up, why WOULD they be registered Republicans? Better to be a free-style voter.
as opposed to many states, where almost everyone is registered in one of the two major parties — In alaska, vast numbers are undeclared. Although the GOp wins almost every statewide race, way under half the voters are registered R.
Nope. Lots of conservatives are unaffiliated or registered Libertarian.
Besides that though they could be on fire liberals, we aren't casting a ballot for them.
More DNC grasping at straws.
MTV has Sarah praising Ron Paul’s independence from the party. I like that!

IIRC, “Independent” is a larger group in Alaska than “Republican” or “Democrat.”
I think this helps Palin with independents.
I registered as an Independent just because I don’t like being put into little boxes...but I have voted straight GOP in every election, and when there is no Republican I write in the names of football players.
Her husband is a member of the United Steelworkers Union. if he wants union work, it’s not a good idea to be a registered Republican.
The corruption connected with some of the Republican leadership in Alaska might be one reason father and son decided to not be part of the GOP there. Also remember, the Alaska GOP did not support Sarah Palin, preferring incumbent crooks.
I consider that a sound reason for the men to not join the Alaska GOP. All of us claim to be conservative first and Republicans second, as we rail against RINO’s. If nothing else, the Palin’s practiced what they preached by staying away.
I was undeclared until the Dims made abortion the issue.
