Exclusive: Chief Fired by Palin Speaks Out (Democrat Opposition Research has Started)
Washington Post ^ | August 29,2008

Posted on 08/29/2008 5:27:33 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

The July firing of Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan by Gov. Sarah Palin, who was announced as John McCain's running mate on Friday, has unearthed a stream of soap-opera-like details about Palin, her husband, her family and top state appointees. The controversy has also cut against Palin's reputation for holding an ethical line and standing up to colleagues in the Republican Party over matters of principle.

Monegan, 57, a respected former chief of the Anchorage Police Department, said in an interview with The Washington Post's James V. Grimaldi on Friday that the governor repeatedly brought up the topic of her ex-brother-in-law, Michael Wooten, after Monegan became the state's commissioner of public safety in December 2006. Palin's husband, Todd, met with Monegan and presented a dossier of information about Wooten, who was going through a bitter custody battle with Palin's sister, Molly. Monegan also said Sarah Palin sent him e-mails on the subject, but Monegan declined to disclose them, saying he planned to give them to a legislative investigator looking into the matter.

Palin initially denied that she or anyone in her administration had ever pressured Monegan to fire the trooper, but this summer acknowledged more than a half a dozen contacts over the matter, including one phone call from a Palin administration official to a state police lieutenant. The call was recorded and was released by Palin's office this month. Todd Palin told a television reporter in Alaska that he did meet with Monegan, but said he was just "informing" Monegan about the issue, not exerting pressure.

"She never directly asked me to fire him," Monegan said.

Folks, before you all get to euphoric about Gov. Palin ... this story will be on the front pages starting tomorrow until Nov. 4th.

I believe that this story will bring down the McCain/Palin ticket in the end.

I am sure that the Alaska legislature will go full bore into an investigation of this matter just to make her look bad for the election. You will soon be witnessing daily transcripts from Alaska's capital with headlines like “Could Impeachment proceedings begin against Gov. Palin soon?”

Wait and watch THIS WILL BE HAPPENING just after the holiday. She will be “Borked”.

It is too bad, she would have made a great VP and potential presidential candidate.

Take ‘em head on Sarah...
When she gets asked about this ... flip the script.
So, Mr. Reporter, you’re the Governor, your brother in law is an abusive jerk and he has made threats against your father - do you sit and do nothing or make a few phone calls to ensure the proper authorities are aware? I will not apologize for protecting my sister... etc etc

The Washington Post has done more investigative research in 12 hours on Palin than they have in four months of Obama.

Of course, what did you expect ?

What we want to know is this --- WHAT IS THE REAL STORY ? Did she really use her position to bring down a person she disliked ?

THAT IS THE ISSUE. If there is a better explanation, let's hear it.

I would bet that Gov. Palin had a whole list of issues against Monegan, and has everything well documented.

You would be pretty close to winning that bet, however the "well documented" part may not be entirely legally admissible evidence. The cop is using the confidentiality laws for POLICE employment records to prevent a case being pursued against him. The commissioner assisted him in doing so. If all the records could be admitted the cop would face: terrorist threats, physical violent child abuse, poaching, drunk driving on duty, and a host of minor stuff.

The ‘rats had better be careful. If they trash another woman after Hillary, they may get quite backlash.

She's a republican to most Liberals and that means she's not human. Sad but true. This will get very ugly and soon.

Our local Union reps had the TroopGate story before 12 noon EST today. The other issue today from my companies Union thugs was the neglectful behavior of Palin.” How could a loving mom leave a Special needs child ?” The number of times I heard Sarah must be sleeping with McCain and how dumb she is because she's cute.

Guys this will be ugly and we must be willing to speak up. I feel if Mrs. Palin is willing to step up so can I.

Hey this stuff works with Democrats.

Yes but in Chicago such officials get promoted and run for higher office.

While that may happen, it can also be turned the other way. She has made enemies up there by not doing things the "good ol' boy" way and she will be made to pay for it by the Democrats and disgruntled Republicans. Some will be sour grapes but if she is anything but squeaky clean or lied about any of this, she, McCain and the election are toast.

And again, the difference between the press ignoring for months the relationship of Obama to Black racists, unrepentant terrorists, and mismanagement of over $100 million and their concentration on this "soap opera" is striking.

Yep, I know... I was over there this morning for a while... I’m not going back there tonight I don’t think — just too disturbing. I’ll probably poke around and pick some “choice” selections to highlight their hypocrisy tomorrow - All of this emotion today and no sleep last night and I’m about ready to drop! LOL

Perhaps you should look into what REALLY happened before assuming that these lies and fabrications have any merit whatsoever!

I’d like to know why you are being so incredibly pessimistic as well. You should be defending her - not giving in to your own fatalistic notions!

Is it just me, or do there seem to be an extremely large number of people who have signed up over the last 6 months or so that are particularly negative, and not interested at all in learning the truth behind things???

I know the Viking Kitties have had at least one snack today — I’m thinking though that there is a lot of “food” for them “laying around” the forum.

They were doing it in Malaya long after Jesse James Time. The Malays in Indonesia stopped doing it long after it was suppressed in Malaysia.

They sometimes still get out of hand ~ and Obama was in their sphere of influence as a child.

It’s the Washington Post. They’re as much of a RAT house organ as the NYT. And even they had to admit Palin didn’t directly tell the chief to fire the guy. This is the kind of smear Olbermann will be making every night.

Won't happen. The story is about Alaska, a whacked out state trooper, a multi-husband rugged backwoods woman, and intrafamily brutality and violence.

I'd be a bit concerned if the Governor had pulled a gun on the puke, but only a bit.
