D/FW will serve as staging ground for Gustav evacuees

Dallas/Fort Worth Airport may serve as a key landing point for hundreds of medical patients airlifted from New Orleans to Metroplex hospitals beginning Sunday, as Hurricane Gustav moves into the Gulf of Mexico.

Additionally, if Gustav hits New Orleans, the former Delta Air Lines satellite facility near Terminal E would end up serving as temporary living quarters for 800 federal relief employees who were stationed at New Orleans' Louis Armstrong Airport as the storm approached, officials said.

"This is going to be a huge team effort," said Brian Magana, D/FW spokesman.

The first patients are tentatively scheduled to arrive early Sunday -- D/FW officials initially projected Saturday morning, but later revised that to Sunday -- on military transports and other aircraft. Ambulances will be waiting to transfer them to more than a dozen area hospitals until they can return to New Orleans.

About 500 Gulf Coast patients will be evacuated, and split between D/FW and El Paso. A majority of the patients will likely end up here, Magana said.

Great. Watch crime rise immediately after the first landings.

One of the evacuated patients is a friend who was moved from intensive care to an air ambulance this evening. I pray that she makes it.

When the Katrina evacuees relocated to to DFW, health care providers were told to take care of them and not worry about duplicate services, etc...go ahead and take care of them and we will make sure you are reimbursed. They didn’t. So, yes, you are correct, but I won’t get suckered again.

My apology Dysart. I need to show this to my fellow Texans.

Texas is probably STILL footing the bill from the first time.

Meanwhile...

U.S. Senator John Cornyn is a proud emissary for Texas in Washington and beyond. He underscores Texas accomplishments and promotes Texas values wherever he goes.

State Rep. Rick Noriega, however, takes a different approach. While he has made numerous bizarre, incoherent statements on the campaign trail, his remarks to a group of liberal fat-cat donors in Denver this week take the cake.

Safely surrounded by left wing high-rollers who flocked to Denver’s elegant Brown Palace Hotel, Noriega just couldn’t help himself. He took his moment in the spotlight to run down Texas and virtually apologize for representing the Lone Star State.

In an attempt to cajole contributions from the wealthy West Coast and Northeast liberals, Noriega appealed to their anti-Texas bias. The Dallas Morning News reported that Noriega told the group that “Being a Texan today means always having to say you’re sorry.”Pretty shocking, I know…but it was just the beginning.

Noriega continued his plea:

“I immediately feel compelled to just apologize to all of you.” Texans, Noriega concluded, “have all been incredibly embarrassed” by their representatives in Washington, including President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

Embarrassed? Incredibly embarrassed?? He runs down the Administration because they stood tall and protected our country from terrorists?

Do we really want someone who is embarrassed by Texas to represent our values in Washington? Someone who is willing to trash Texans behind their backs?

Thoughts anyone?

Oh, Jeez, not this again. It’s almost the 3 year anniversary of Katrina, and we’re (DFW) getting MORE Louisiana refugees?

We should just evacuate the lower third of that state and ship them off to wherever. Do it once and get `er done for good.

Preparations are already under way for incoming evacuees all the way up here in Tn. I got two emails this evening. The first was from the local food bank asking for volunteers tomorrow to assemble food boxes for expected displaced individuals. The 2nd message was from the local American Red Cross seeking volunteers to staff local shelters next week.

Talk about advanced planning.

Medical patients yes. Keep those scumbag entitlement mentality locusts OUT of here.

We got a raft of Katrina refugees into rental houses where I live after the hurricane. Crime skyrocketed for the next year. They're gone now. As soon as they left the crime rate dropped like a stone.

You’re lucky. They haven’t left here. They came in and found a gold mine of freebies and are currently popping out more welfare statistics.
