A leading House Democrat said Friday John McCain's choice of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is a "risky" move that could ultimately prove disastrous to the Republican prospects in November.
Meanwhile, a top Senate Democrat said the pick is a "Hail Mary pass" and a "roll of the dice," in what is the initial reactions from McCain's rival party.
Speaking to South Carolina ETV Radio, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn likened the choice of Palin to Walter Mondale's choice of Geraldine Ferraro in 1984 and George H.W. Bush's pick of Dan Quayle in 1988. Both picks relatively unknown political figures at the time generated initial excitement but were ultimately deemed poor choices by many political observers.
"I think (her selection) would be something similar to Dan Quayle Dan Quayle proved to be sort of an embarrassment as a campaigner, being thrust on a national stage like that could be very tough," Clyburn said. "Now Mondale tried to shake things up by going with Geraldine Ferraro, she proved to be a disaster as a running mate. And as a campaigner, she was absolutely awful."
"And so I just think that it is very risky for McCain to do this, but it may be all he has left," Clyburn also said.
In an issued statement, Sen. Chuck Schumer said Palin is significantly mismatched to Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden and said the prospect of her becoming president is "troubling."

“Dems say Palin is ‘risky,’ could be a disaster”
Keep dreaming.... she’s going to be your worst nightmare!
Let’s do our part to MAKE it a disaster for the dems.
Go to http://www.johnmccain.com/ right now and donate as much as you can. Evry dollar you give is one more bucket the democrats are going to have to bail out of their sinking ship.
In the space where you write who referred you, write “Sarah Palin”.
She sure did. And when she did, I immediately thought about Obama’s and Biden’s initial reactions to Russias invasion of Georgia.

The next President of the United States of America will be a Republican. Look ye journalists upon thy future and despair! :-)

Agree for sure. The blind, arrogant, dictatorial socialists of the left have really outsmarted themselves. Their rabid pursuit of power caused them to suffer from terminal myopia and McCain just simply stepped over the goal line, and scored. It was not difficult. In fact, it was not really a fair fight considering the fact that the apparent two best candidates that the radical left could come up with were and are absolutely pathetic as well as so dangerous, a high school student could spot it.
I must say I have had some of my faith in McCain restored.
My, my, my but aren’t they nervous. :) I’m so excited!!
Agreed.
Notice how Mugabe and Obama think women need to ride at the back of the bus.
Hillery doesn't like it back there!LOL.
That is because Sarah is a Black Swan.
Nice to hear that Bob Beckel was speechless. Sorry I missed it. Hope he turned bright red then dead white and spittle collected on his chins, right on TV. I despise that guy.
Great video. I hope they use that footage/music in the campaign(add some shots of her with her float plane & hunting and fishing). Thanks for posting....
THANK YOU!!! I went to that link, and wow...there is hope for unity. Some of the posters there could be FReepers....and I loved the ‘’thud’’ comment (Obama falling off his pedistal). Spot on!

Great side by side comparsion! I was so beyond thrilled at the Palin pick that I just donated to McCain and will continue to do so every month. I was literally high when news broke. My 15-year-old daughter and I even had a celebratory lunch, lol.
We may see the biggest March for Life rally yet in 2009. Young pro life Catholics and Evangelicals have found a new leader and her name is Sarah. :-}
It is a great day. I have been hoping for Palin for several months but never anticipated how much of an impact she would have.
Drool! Is that yours?
Hey you!
Is this good news or what!
Democrats don’t give a flying flip about Republicans taking a risk with the election.
They would desire a weak candidate.
They are scared big time.
Ha ha! While Palin was governing a state, Obama was voting present in the senate. She’s more qualified then him to be President!
She is going to take Biden apart in the debates.
