Palin Pick Leaves Bruised Feelings
Washington Post ^ | August 29, 2008 | Anne E. Kornblut

Posted on 08/29/2008 11:11:08 AM PDT by Zakeet

Though it was high in shock value, the Palin pick left bruised feelings among the short-list contenders who were not picked -- and infuriated some Republican officials who privately said McCain had gone out on a limb, unnecessarily, without laying the groundwork for such an unknown. Two senior Republican officials close to Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty said they had both been rudely strung along and now "feel manipulated."

"They now know that they were used as decoys, well after McCain had decided not to pick them," one Republican involved in the process said.

Democrats quickly absorbed the Obama talking points. Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar, of Colorado, said it demonstrated a "lack of judgment" on McCain's part.

Even some former Clinton supporters said Palin would not automatically draw disenchanted women voters -- and would face fierce pushback from the Obama campaign over her conservative social views.

[Snip]

"The fact that Palin is pro-life and pro-gun will be a block for many of Senator Clinton's supporters -- but not all. And it will raise the question for many why Senator Obama didn't pick Senator Clinton as his running mate."

Oh Puleeze!

These are big boys playing hardball politics, they'll get over it.

If they don't they shouldn't be in the game.

Sarah is a threat to the WAPO and The Times and all the MSNBC leftist socialist pacifists. That is why she will not get any cred from the MSM. Yet, she is qualified as BO is, and if she debates the way she talked today, Biden will not be able to use his snarky arrogance against her. Of course, the WAPO would try to bring disunion in this pick. My bet is that Rudy, Mitt, Joe, Tom, all will end up in a McCain Cabinet if the Pubs win. The media will hate her because she is a beautiful woman and not just a CAUSE.

Oh, come on, Washington Post. Anybody who’s been in politics (as Romney and Pawlenty have been, for many years) knows that that’s how it goes. You win some, you lose some. I’m sure one or both of them will get Cabinet positions, and they’re not going to waste their future chances by being ticked off over this.

Anyone who pays attention to what the failing Washington Post says (declining circulation, ad lines, etc.) is as big a fool as Jimmy Carter, one of its prime idols.

Pawlenty is the McCain campaign co-chair. If he was a decoy, he was a willing decoy. He knew who it was all along.

As for Romney, boo-frickety-hoo. Cry me a river.

So saith the WaPo. Could be true, could be Making Stuff Up.

Anyway, someone who ticks off the RNC country clubbers can't be all bad.

re: Biden will not be able to use his snarky arrogance against her.)))

I hope he tries. She's Miss Congeniality and will make him look mean. Actually, I KNOW he'll try. But she has to hit the books on foreign policy and learn all those funny-sounding names.

If that’s true, I’m glad he didn’t pick either of those sissies. This is the upper echelons of earthly power we’re talking about here. If you can’t take the heat and all that..

“Democrats quickly absorbed the Obama talking points.”

Particularly the Democrats in the news media.

Absorbing the talking points is what passes for intelligence in Washington.

Good Grief; they should be applauding McCain's pick. Sarah Palin will be an outstanding President in the future.

If Romney moves to CA, then look for him to run against one of our idiot Senators in the near future, or perhaps for govenator.

I agree with you but I think she is more qualified than Obama. She takes a stand and doesn’t back down. Obama just doesn’t vote!
