McCain appears set to name Palin as running mate (FR exclusive analysis)
August 29, 2008 | xjcsa

Based on a couple of key pieces of evidence uncovered by others (h/t to Truthseeker at Draft Sarah Palin), it appears nearly certain that John McCain is set to announce Alaska governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. This evidence has also been noted by Kathryn Jean Lopez at the Corner and in a few posts here on FR, although I have not seen both pieces noted together.

So what's this evidence? Flight tracking information from two separate chartered flights.

One of these flights started in Anchorage and flew nonstop to Hook Field Municipal Airport (MWO) in Middletown, Ohio, less than 30 miles from where McCain is to make his first appearance with his running mate. The other airplane also started in Anchorage two days ago, but flew first to Flagstaff, Arizona (near McCain's home in Sedona), and then on to the same airport in Middletown, Ohio (with fuel stops along the way in Seattle and Amarillo).

This is too much for coincidence - it appears certain that Sarah Palin and her family were flown separately to Ohio for the big event. Most likely Palin was on the flight that stopped overnight in Flagstaff and her family was flown on the nonstop flight yesterday.

It's not 100%, but I'd call it something like 98% - Sarah Palin appears to be the pick.

Gutsy move with this thread. If it is Palin, the FR’s value increases.

I was aware of Palin, but this thread a few months back really endeared me to her.

Yeah, but she would NAIL the feminist vote AND the "right-to-life" vote simultaneously.

Good point. You’ve caused me to rethink my original premise. Obama’s inexperience means that Sarah Palin’s inexperience is off the table as a campaign issue.

Not so. McCain IS ready. McCain can argue that Sarah will learn from him. Also, in choosing a young woman, McCain is setting up a successor-something G.W.B. didn’t do.

He said that? (Not that I’m surprised one bit by that idiot blowhard.)

Reading up on Governor Palin, she’s got a lot going for her.

I personally like the pick. I think she’ll make it difficult for Biden to beat up on her because there are too many dem ladies out there already upset about how they perceive Hillary was treated during the primaries. He’d just look like a bully but I doubt he’ll be able to control himself, none the less. And you’re right, Obama camp doesn’t want to bring up the experience issue, or lack thereof. Could be really good.

No disrespect to the Guv but Biden will eat her lunch in the debate.

I hope I'm wrong, but she can be a huge liability given her lack of experience in national politics.

I do prefer governors over senators.

Ok, this is the only way I can envision voting for McCain...and even then, it isn’t FOR McCain!

This would be a bold move that tosses cold water on Obama’s claim to be an agent of change, esp with his pick of Biden.

16 months as a Governor is much more impressive than 16 months as a Senator...

To make this more a comparison of "apple to apple", its the dual comparison: An experienced Senator versus an empty suit; and the second comparison is what if after 4 years, the VP becomes prez: A bloviating plagiarist versus a Governor with 4 years Vice President experience.

If this was poker, Sarah would so blow away a hillary! in 2012.

Intrade is extremely reactive to news events. Don’t use it as a valid predictor.

That said, I’m somewhat leery of this, unless Palin turns out to be a gifted Young Reagan, who can go toe to toe with not only Biden, but Obama himself. I would have preferred a woman with more heft, like Rice, but McCain probably saw something he really liked. I trust his judgement here.

I suspect Palin will have a screen presence that will make everyone in the Obama campaign do a quick STFU.

Best,

Chris

Fox is reporting that an employee of Hook airport reported a woman and 2 teenagers got off the plane. Also reporting that the plane is tied to a mclame fundraiser.

Sounds like she could be an absolutely terrific choice. Only “down” seems to be that she isn’t a national figure, and doesn’t have more experience.

Christian athletes, but smoked pot. Wonder where she is, spiritually?

I’m awake and I actually live near Wasilla, no rumor or buzz around here that says Palin is a nominee, just the opposite, she was asked earlier this year and she said she did not want to be nominated. She is an Alaskan and it would mean leaving the state, I know the feeling, anywhere else is not home.
