McCain Campaign: No Leaks Tonight

ABC's George Stephanopoulos reports: Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., wants to win the election in November. But he does not want to steal Sen. Barack Obama's, D-Ill., thunder this evening, as the Democrat becomes the first African American to accept a major party's nomination for president.

A senior McCain campaign official tonight said the news of the Republican's running mate, which is scheduled to be announced tomorow in Dayton, Ohio, will not upstage Obama tonight.

"There will be no announcement tonight. There will be no leak tonight. This is Barack Obama's night. His nomination is a singular achievement. Tonight's his night to make his case," a senior campaign official said.

Very foolish. McCain can steal the front page headlines tomorrow with a leak. But he wants to be a "gentleman" right after Berry get's done savaging him.

Berry is begging for a smackdown with his arrogant pap.

I truly hope that November 4 isn’t also Obama’s night! I truly hope that November 4 isn’t the Democratic Party’s night at any political level!

Very foolish. McCain can steal the front page headlines tomorrow with a leak.

And leak what? That he chose PAWlenty, the Official SpokesDog for Petco? Bo-ring! I think at this point I would rather he chose Lieberman because at least it would be interesting. If he picks the absolute nobody that is Pawlenty, it will be a disaster.

Actually I think it shows the strength of the McCain campaign.

A) If McCain would have leaked it tonight it would have turned Obama into the victim.

B) Obama couldn’t keep his VP secret and it leaked out ruining his actual text message announcement.

C) It shows McCain to be very strong to only release the name when he’s ready.

I think McCain’s getting all the nominees in one place.. and may not have even notified the person yet.

McCain learned from Obama’s debacle. Since all the top contenders will be in one place it’s harder to find out who the actual VP is.

Because everyone is packing their bags for Ohio. Except Huckabee. :)

No ... the media is leftist.

If a 'Rat leaks news the last evening of the Republican convention, that's News.

The other way around, that's being a bad sport.

The rules are different for us and them.

he doesn't want the already in the bag liberal media to make Obama out as the victim. Tomorrow morning will take the focus away from Obama just fine and we will have a full day of it and weekend too.

I think the rapid response to the speech from the McCain team was a pretty hard smackdown. This shows great disciplne on his team’s part. Barry’s speech will have a short shelf life thanks to the them waiting till the morning or the event to announce.

The weekend news cycle will be about McCain and Hurricanes.

McCain has pathetic loser written all over him. Depending on his VP pick, maybe not a bad thing.

McCain has said all along he was going to announce this pick on Friday (tomorrow)

It’s his birthday. There was speculation he might release the name early.. but every political strategist from Karl Rove to Howard Wolfson said that was a bad idea.

McCain could not fight his way out of a paper bag.

He is going to get creamed by that Socialist.

He wants to be a "nice guy".

That--being on the defensive and constantly reaching across the aisle--and being a flaming RINO, are two good reasons to see that there will be more of this; shame and pity on the Republican Party.

I think at this point I would rather he chose Lieberman because at least it would be interesting.

It would get really interesting if he chose somebody of his own party like Hillary, Lindsey Graham, or even Ted Kennedy.

Better yet, just pick Lincoln Chafee.

I laughed out loud at this too...although I hear that most of the puddles are over at MSNBC tonight. Apparently Keith and Chris can't Depend where Barack is concerned.
