[F]ormer Joyce Foundation board member Barack Obama has secured yet another faux Second Amendment supporter in lifelong Republican Tony Dean, a long-time host of hunting and fishing television shows in South Dakota. Dean told the Dallas News hes switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group.
A lifelong Republican that is switching parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group?
This is an interesting claim, given that Dean was mentioned by the Rapid City Journal in 2003 as a possible Democratic candidate for Congress who endorsed Democrat Senator Tim Johnson for reelection just a year earlier. Deans efforts to draw gun owners to Johnson werent enough, and Johnsons Republican challenger, John Thune, became a U.S. Senator from South Dakota. According to public records, Dean donated money to another anti-gun South Dakota Democrat, Tom Daschle, also in 2003.
For Tony Dean to have switch[ed] parties to head a Sportsmen for Obama group he would have to have done so at least two years before Obama was even elected to Senate, and five years prior to he announced his presidential bid. Indeed, it appears the word lifelong is as difficult for Dean and the Obama campaign to define as the word is is to Bill Clinton.
Dean is quoted by the Dallas News as saying hes 99 percent sure a President Obama isnt going to infringe on gun rights. But seeing as Mr. Dean, who at least one blogger has been dubbed South Dakotas Al Gore because of his fervent belief in human-cause global warming, describes himself as a moderate on the gun issue who opposes the NRA on most gun issues, his assurances about Obama arent likely to be much consolation to pro-gun voters.
Fahey, a lifelong Republican who is now an ardent Obama supporter
I looked up Frank Fahey and found this article from 2000 which describes him then as an "independent":

"In Lebanon, independent voter Frank Fahey..."

Thanks for posting this.
How could the host of a hunting show disagree with the NRA on most issues? Perhaps he wants to retire....

The only thing that you have to know is ...”If they are with the Democrat Party ...They are liars!”
We all know that independent is a code word for "votes democratic but - due to anti-establishment leaning - refuses to label themselves as actually belonging to the side they really belong to." Scarborough got that one right recently.
Thank you "the right Michelle," Michelle Malkin. I was hoping someone would vet these "ordinary people" the RATs are putting on parade. It's hardly a surprise to learn they are not who they say they are, but nice to have it confirmed.

MM is a tough gal. Those punks in Denver as well as the idiot, Alex Jones, could not fluster her. Keep it up MM.
Works for me...Great Caesar's Ghost! That is one gorgeous woman!!!
It seems to me as VP she could have a single main assignment...keep her blog up to date.
Rat astroturf.
If I were to hazard I guess, I'd say it's because, like Jim Zumbo, he thinks the Second Amendment is about hunting, and that no one "needs" a semi-automatic firearm, of any kind.

Not a damn thing about hunting mentioned in the 2nd Amendment. Zip. Zilch. Nada. OTOH, Article 1 Section 8 defines the missions of the militia (which as currently legally defined in 10 USC 311, is all able-bodied males 17-45) as follows ... a) “execute the laws of the union” b) “suppress insurrections” and c) “repel invasions.” At a minimum, the 2nd prohibits the government from infringing on an individual right (thank you Alan Gura, Bob Levy, et al for Heller v. DC) to keep and bear arms suitable for those missions. Arms in current use by our military would be ideal for such missions, such as the M4/M16 or the M249 Minimi SAW, grenades, bayonets, the M9 (Beretta 9mm) pistol, etc. We have quite a few unconstitutional gun laws on the books at this time, and we should dump them.
I thought Thune beat Tom Daschle, who was Senate Minority Leader (a much better victory imho).
Further reflection; Thune LOST to Johnson in 2002, barely (voter fraud on Indian reservations?), but then went on to beat Daschle in 2004.
