The Blogger (Freeper)Behind the Obama Hit Job
Time ^ | 8/24/08 | Claire Suddath

Larry Martin owns Frontera Bar and Grill, a Tex-Mex restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. He imports mesquite charcoal from San Francisco and, he says, "serves peace love and American hegemony, one plate of tacos at a time" to Malaysian customers. In his spare time, he writes a semi-anonymous blog, An American Expat in Southeast Asia, on which he rails against mainstream American media, multiculturalism — and Barack Obama. And that is how Martin has come to the attention of a broader audience. His blog is repeatedly cited as a source in Jerome R. Corsi's best-selling anti-Obama book, Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality.

Corsi's publisher Simon & Schuster has touted Obama Nation — which currently sits atop the New York Times' best-seller list — as "thoroughly researched and documented." Indeed, the book's 680 footnotes seem to support that claim. But misstatements and inaccuracies — including at least eight major errors in the first 50 pages — have thrown considerable doubt on the book's credibility. So has the author's dependence on less-than-authoritative sources, among them Martin's blog.

The article is just a hit piece on Corsi. But the fact remains, The book sit’s atop the NY Times best seller, & that has to be a stinky poo poo in the NY Slimes lobby.

I think he got a few insignificant things like some dates wrong.

The thing the media is unfairly forgetting is that the media has not vetted The Obama, and therefore authors need to do work quickly to publish before his possible coronation. If the media vetted, and Obama was open (and released docs from his yrs in IL, NY, HI and Indonesia) then maybe authors would not be making minor errors.

This is soooooooo elitist; a guy who owns a restaurant can't do the press' job better than a JOURNALIST?

Hey, here we have people in their pajamas and ex USAF clerks bringing down major journalists all the time, that's how rotten their industry is...

Their relying on the average Joe's faith in journalism, but that gets thinnner every passing day...

Knowing what needs to be corrected is important. They generally get corrected in subsequent editions.

However, sometimes “errors” are really political opinions. For example, if I spend a year saying I’m opposed to the War on Terror, then it would be fair for you to say that I oppose troops anyplace, wouldn’t it?

Excellent point.

For much more on the ObamaRats and the strong communist angle in all this, i.e. the one being largely ignored by both the left AND most of the right-wing media, particularly the more popular personalities like Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Laura Ingram, Bill O'Reilly, etc, please check out my FR Home page. Everything there is well documented and linked directly to its source. Thanks.

"Their founding document [the Weather Underground's] called for the establishment of a "white fighting force" to be allied with the "Black Liberation Movement" and other "anti-colonial" movements [1] to achieve "the destruction of US imperialism and the achievement of a classless world: world communism."..." -Berger, Dan (2006). Outlaws of America: The Weather Underground and the Politics of Solidarity. AK Press, pg 95.

From David Horowitz's FrontPageMag.com/DiscoverTheNetworks.org:
"FBI files from 1976, recently made public under the Freedom of Information Act, confirm the connections between Weatherman, Havana, and Moscow. Weatherman leaders like Mark Rudd traveled illegally to Havana in 1968 to engage in terrorist training. There, camps set up by Soviet KGB Colonel Vadim Kotchergine were educating Westerners both in Marxist philosophy and urban warfare."

First, the Democrat Party should’ve vetted the obama, right?

“If the media vetted, and Obama was open (and released docs from his yrs in IL, NY, HI and Indonesia) then maybe authors would not be making minor errors.”

Exactly.

But misstatements and inaccuracies — including at least eight major errors in the first 50 pages — have thrown considerable doubt on the book's credibility.

The make-believe "journalists" such as the author of this hit piece all seem to be strangely uncurious about looking into anything other than the alleged "errors" in the book. Are we to believe that the book reveals nothing - absolutely nothing - that has not already been investigated by the MSM? A true journalist might have put some effort into identifying things that are apparently not "major errors", looking for tidbits that could lead to some investigative reporting of their own.

Yet, "curiously", apparently none of them has figured out that there might be actual reporting that they could do on the lesser-known details of Obama's life and associates. Instead, they think that it's their mission in life to act as surrogates for Obama's campaign.

I suppose that I should give the author some slack, though. "Claire Suddath" apparently grew up in a Chicago suburb, so maybe she believes her true calling to be engaging in Chicago boosterism, rather than in independent reporting. I suppose that helps explain why "Claire Suddath" is unlikely to be confused with a true "journalist"...

Well, OK, I guess that she is "not guilty", but that hardly excuses her lack of journalistic professionalism.

at least eight major errors in the first 50 pages

Ya would of thunk that the Time employees could have done better.

the news video [said] only that the young Obama "lived his life in the middle of Muslims." Corsi has extrapolated from that to infer that Obama was a Muslim.

.. and Time employees disagree. Big deal.

What was Martin's source for his repeated insistence that Obama's former school requires students to dress in traditional Muslim attire on Fridays? "I've lived [in Southeast Asia] for 20 years; I go to schools all the time," he says. However, he admits that he never visited Obama's former school on a Friday.

When did any Time employees visit Obama's former school on a Friday?

Where is the Time's employees' source for their "To Challenge Hope" meaning of the Indonesian phrase? 'Tain't there, McGee.

I must have missed discussion of five of the eight "major errors." I counted three.

So what all did Jason Tedjasukmana and Zamira Loebis in Jakarta contrbute to the article? For example did they say that Menerjang Harapan does not mean jihad, no way, no how.. not a chance?

A phrase translates, literally, to; “To Challenge Hope”? What the hell is that supposed to mean? Clearly it has a meaning beyond the literal English. A reporter interested in anything other than carrying water for Obama would have found out what the phrase refer to.
