Sorensen: Obama's challenge is race (New Camelot barf)

Barack Obama needs to overcome the “demographic challenge” of race by connecting with voters on a personal level, Ted Sorensen said Tuesday. Obama needs to become better-known as “a family man and a community organizer,” Sorensen said, stressing biography and his life experiences to move some voters past “their unease about voting for a black man.”Sorensen, the Nebraskan who served as President Kennedy’s chief adviser and speechwriter, addressed his homestate delegation at the Democratic national convention, then sat down for an interview. President Kennedy faced efforts to categorize him as the Catholic candidate for president, Sorensen recalled. “JFK thought it was important to make it clear over and over again that ‘I am not the Catholic candidate for president,’” Sorensen said.Obama, he said, also needs to try to avoid being categorized by race or branded with falsehoods that he is Muslim or that he was born in Kenya or that he is not a patriot.

Wasn’t Ted a speech writer for Kennedy?

Yes, that and more. He was a very close adviser. Her remained close to the Kennedy family until he was called in to help write Ted’s Chappaquiddick speech. After that, I believe he severed his ties.

But, he said, if Obama was not facing the barrier of race, he could be 20 to 30 points ahead of John McCain today instead of locked in a tight contest.

Not quite Ted. If the hOly One wasn't a black man, his "qualifications" would have had him laughed off stage long ago.

Only an over the hill leftist would think that bragging about being a 'community organizer' is a smart thing to do in a political race. Most Americans have no idea what a 'community organizer' is. Who pays them? What do they produce? What community are they organizing to achieve what end? Isn't this a vaugely communist kind of job?

Real Americans, who Obama will need to attract in large numbers to win, understand jobs like lawyers, doctors, employee, business owner, plumber, factory worker, service industry employee, etc.

Not according to Jimmah Karter who lauds the "Black Boy" who made good.

So Sorenson recommends Obama do MORE of what is turning audiences off? Yeah, good plan.

If Ted were honest, what he’d say is Obama needs Joe Kennedy, to work Chicago and West Virginia and Lyndon Johnson to work Texas for him...because without them, this liberal rhetoric will end up where JFK’s candidacy would have in a fair election.

Stress his life experience as a community organizer?

That is comparable to making a young victim rights advocate the police commissioner!

Obama’s resume is completely inadequate to apply for CEO of the largest corporation in the world.

Geraldine got it right.

Only a leftist academic would be impressed by someone’s credentials as a “community organizer”.

Most people would look at that and say, the man has never had a job.

Obama’s challenge is getting people who actually work for a living to vote for him. Thats still a fair-sized demographic in this country. Not so much among Democrats, granted, but he needs a few working people to cross over and vote for him if he’s going to win.

It seems to me that as people learn more about Barack Hussein Obama’s biography his polling numbers fall. And I agree with others here that his racial credentials are a primary - and very likely THE primary - reason he is getting the nomination at all. It certainly isn’t his experience or legislative accomplishments. Another prime reason he won is that if the democrats hadn’t rigged their primaries in such a weird fashion he wouldn’t have beaten Hillary! at all.

His hurdle is MARXISM. We didn’t want Hillarycare. We didn’t want it from Howard Dean. We didn’t want it from Jean Kerry. We don’t want it from Obama-Ayers.

Obama’s challenge is race, alright...the presidential race. And he’s obviously not up to the challenge.

Yup.

What bothers me the most is there is very obvious racism in this election. From those who pretend to be offended by racism. Huge hypocrisy.

Race should never be considered. At least that is what we are constantly being told by the PC Left.

Sounds too much like racial quotas and preferences.

Listened to a caller on John Gibson's show yesterday. The caller was repeatedly asked why she was voting for Obama. She said “his platform.” Gibson asked, “what platform?” Went on like this for a minute. She couldn't explain Obama's "platform." I am betting that she is voting for him because of the color of his skin.

That’s a really good point. Community organizers aren’t healthy for America.
