Russian Saber-Rattling: Is it Affecting the Election?

Posted on 08/26/2008 4:55:58 PM PDT by mavfin

I've searched around FR a bit looking for anyone asking this question, but haven't found one. Admin, feel free to lock this if I've missed an obvious one.

With Russia back to the saber-rattling ways of old, I'm hearing rumbles that some people are re-thinking their presidential vote because they don't think Obama will stand up to the Cold-War type intimidation that the Russians seem to be going back to. I'm hearing some are saying they'll vote McCain because they would rather have him at the helm if a new Cold War with Russia is possibly coming.

Any thoughts?

I know I wouldn't want no-defense Barry in the White House to deal with a newly resurgent Russia. (Well, I don't want him there under any circumstances, but, we have plenty of threads about that already)

putin must be a mccain supporter!

If this is based on ANYTHING other than his actions will help elect McCain, I'd be interested in hearing it...

Maybe it is Bush’s way of saying F*%&off to the RATS and everyone who gave him crap over the last 8 years.

My thought is that some of Obama’s slide could possibly be due to the Russian saber-rattling, and people actually waking up and realizing it’s still dangerous out there, and he’s not the right man for anything dangerous. Might be too much to hope for, but it does happen. i.e. Jimmy Carter II is not the man you want to face down the new Russians.

isn’t there general agreement among politicians, both democrat and republican,

that a national security threat would favor mccain

with american voters?

that’s my assumption.

off topic,

but recent photos of angela merkel who has the same hips and pant suits as hillary,

in contrast to the russians, medvedev and putin,

brings to mind how fit the russian men look in contrast. she looks dumpy.

the two russians look like they’re in control and could kill you.

On the other side of the coin:

Perhaps Putin thinks Obama (the pushover) is a shoe in and thus his devil-may-care aggressive attitude toward Georgia? ;-)

There might be some truth to it, seeing that the MSM dropped the question like a hot potato.

Just like after 9/11, people are having doubts. THIS can be the issue, and Biden won’t fix it.

I actually believe russia has determined, that there is no better time than now,and seeing that in a conventional war, they are toast, that they will make toast out of us,first. The world would believe anything,,mccain is a hothead,he started it,,at least that is what they will say.

The old saw about McCain being somewhat “off” after having been tortured and held captive works in his favor too. He comes off as a take no prisoners guy (at least compared to Obambi). Obama is slight, effete and thin-skinned. Maybe people don’t agree now with Iraq decison, but they still agree (if they are truly being honest) that they are glad Bush was Prez on 9/11.

Medvedev and Putin have probably done their share of killing.

Just a guess...........
