Word had disseminated among the protest crowd that there was to be an "Anti-capitalist march" as well as a "Meet-up for Fundraiser Disruption" jointly announced by Recreate 68 and DNC Disruption 08, two radical groups dedicated to causing problems at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. A notice online said, "Interested parties will gather at 6pm at civic center park" where "top-secret information on a couple of the choicest fundraisers and parties in Denver" was to be handed out. Then, "at the appointed time monday night, we'll emerge from the shadows to reconvene in downtown and get down and dirty."

A few years ago a large group of these young anarchists descended upon downtown Long Beach, California, and succeeded in shutting down a large area for hours.
I never found out what happened to these thugs. The story just disappeared from the news after a few days.

Howie Carr in Boston tells a great story about the Old Horse Cops in Boston during the Vietnam war.
The night before a protest, they woudl march the horses up and down the area of the protest till there was plenty of horse droppings on the ground.
Next morning they would pick one hippie out of the crowd and knock him over the head with the night stick. Then drag him face down through the horse crap and throw him into the paddy wagon. Instant peaceful protestors!

Amen, probably not one in the bunch can accurately describe what capitalism is and none of them realize that the government so interferes with business that we don’t even have a true capaitalist system anymore. They probably would say they want socialism but don’t have the brains to realize we already have socialism in this country.

Oh, weren’t those the days, when the police could actually be proactive. I remember once, this is a piddling little story, but it was in New Orleans, Mardi Gras 1983, and Bourbon St. was packed. The cops came through on horses demanding that everyone get on the sidewalk, which was an impossibility because the street was packed. I remember one stinking hippie trying to grab one of the horses by the bridle, and the cop yanked the reins, and that massive horsehead came swinging around and CLOCKED that stinking hippie, who went down like a sack o’ horse manure.
That was fun to watch, but it’s a little scary being told to perform an impossibility by the coppers.
