Three men and one woman have been arrested for plotting to assassinate Barack Obama on Thursday, the day that he is set to take the stage at the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado and accept the nomination as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. One of the male suspects told Denver police that he was "going to shoot Obama" at the 75,000-seat Invesco stadium "from a high vantage point using a rifle sighted at 750 yards".
Police found two high-powered rifles, boxes of ammunition, a rifle scope, a bullet-proof vest, walkie-talkies and methamphetamine in a truck rented by 28-year-old Tharin Gartrell. One of the suspects "was directly asked if they had come to Denver to kill Obama. He responded in the affirmative", a police spokesperson said.
It is understood the group may have ties to an outlaw biker gang called Sons of Silence, which is believed to have connections with white supremacists. However, federal sources have said that the incident may have had more to do with drugs than with a plot to assassinate Obama.
Meanwhile Obama's wife Michelle Obama has addressed the Democratic National Convention in Denver, giving a passionate and personal account of life with her husband. Her first major speech, delivered to more than 4,000 delegates, was intended to persuade sceptical working-class voters that the Obamas, with their "blue-collar" roots and despite the "funny name", share the values of ordinary Americans.
"I love this country," declared Michelle Obama, before going on to praise Hillary Clinton for her role in advancing the cause of women in her bid to become the Democratic nominee. She also insisted that "the Barack Obama I know today is the same man I fell in love with 19
Is this feeling just a bit, ummmmmm, ‘contrived’ to anyone else, or am I just too cynical for my own good??
Very. This doesn’t even begin to pass the smell test.
How appropriate. She's dressed for a funeral. She's there to bury his campaign after all...
Ya think! The guys were high on meth. If you asked them if they could fly, they'd say yes.
Such crap.
Notice the “Meanwhile, back at the ranch” line........
WHO writes this trash?????????
Very much so.
So the cops pull over some outlaw bikers who have SHOCK drugs and SHOCK Guns....
Then perhaps the we are on our way to kill Obama may have been a sarcastic remark.
Then the dumb article goes on to say meanwhile Michelle loves America.
(no enema or stool softner need this week)
1)Rascist murderers are in Denver to assassinate Obama, and there are likely others. 2) The Obamas are true Blue mianstream Americans who should not be subjected to the murderous intentions of conservative, Republican America. This is fascist rhetoric, designed to whip up the emotions of non-thinking Americans, so they will vote in sympathy for the poor put-upon Obamas.
" I love this country. I mean to deeply divide it and conquer it for Black Nationalism and the Orwellian Utopia it represents." The true fascist message of this article.
It was my first thought as soon as I saw the headline. Remember, a year ago Michelle announced that she was afraid he would be assassinated.
Great way to grab some headlines.
I think this is just the media trying to play up the "evil racist whitey" card so that their man Hussein looks like a victim of racial violence.
Stroking for headlines, nothing more.
Crying racism and victim, all in one swoop.
Except for that “hate America” part. Oh, and that, “take money away from you so that the State cans pend it” part. Oh, and the “we need to be more like the rest of the world part.” Oh, and that “whites are evil racists” part. Oh, and that “we're poor folks that happened to go to ivy league schools and made it big” part. Oh, and that “Hussein Obama made 4 million on two books that other people wrote for him” part. Oh, and that “we think it's ok if a baby is born alive because of a botched abortion to let him or her die alone in a room on a table” part.
Yeah, they're just like working-class Americans.
Yeah, you’re right but still, did you see the mugshots of the methheaded morons? Geez! Talk about coming from the bottom of the gene pool where there are no branches on the family tree!! ;-)
Same thought I had. Compare the photos of the perps to the "Iron My Shirt!" brigade that heckled Hillary...
You got it in one and thanks for writing it.
I’m continually fascinated by how deeply self-described liberals and progressives have imbibed and adopted the means of social control that Orwell went to such lengths to decry. It’s as if ‘1984’ is their workbook for manipulation rather than the dire warning about how our viewpoints can be manipulated I think he intended we conclude. And right out in plain view. The Purloined Media Message, as it were. Note especially how they’ll take up, almost in unison, redefining some perfectly good word. The one I’ve noticed most recently is ‘legendary’, used to mean ‘seminal’ or ‘prototypical’. When legendary comes to mean ‘the one who seems to typify and first embody a skill or characteristic’ rather than ‘not clearly attested as being real’, those other words begin to fade from use and fantasy intrudes on reality. That was what Orwell was on about most heavily: you control the masses by slowly constricting their language. Once they forget how to articulate semiotic differences, they will conflate situations and circumstances. That way lies moral equivalence and how it now has so much intellectual purchase with people around the world.
Note also that by calling someone like George Carlin ‘legenday’, the memory of him morphs into myth and godlikeness, as if his being were not really of normal humanity but of something different and probably superior (think Siegfried in loafers). I remember the young, vibrant and slightly naughty GC. That man was far superior to the cranky, virulent old curmudgeon who recently passed away. Neither were especially notable, even in artistic terms, but at least young GC was often pleasant to listen to and whose ideas were not uniformly distasteful to consider.
The point of art is to illustrate articulation, to intelligently extract observable elements of real life and arrange them in artificial patterns so others may be informed. If artists were now doing their job, this kind of political intellectual strangulation wouldn’t be so effective. Mostly, they simply illustrate the wisdom and farsightedness of those who seek to impose Rousseauean uniformity on us all, the supposed pristine moral clarity of the jungle. Come on, Hollywood, here’s your chance to make authentic and important art: point out the verbal fascism going on and condemn it!
All we neednow is to find out thatsomeone was directed by seeing the Queen of Hearts.
Childish.
Well, L.E. seems to have saved the day with this one. I'm only surprised they didn't find their RNC cards and a note purportedly from John McCain in their back pants pockets.
If it was another Arkanside, it's just another example of if you want a job done right, do it yourself.
Aaaah! My eyes!!
