Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain may announce his choice for a running mate earlier than expected, sources told FOX News on Monday.
McCain had previously said he would announce his vice presidential pick on Friday and would appear with that individual at a rally in Dayton, Ohio, following the announcement. Friday is McCains 72nd birthday.
But sources close to McCains campaign told FOX News that his decision may come sooner than that possibly on Thursday, when Barack Obama accepts the Democratic nomination at Invesco field in Denver, Colo.
McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds diminished the news.
I wouldnt much weight into reports that there are windows of possibility, he said.
Several names have come up repeatedly as McCains possible running mate, including former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge and, perhaps, Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman of Connecticut. Also named is Gen. David Petraeus, the incoming head of Central Command.

Yep, there is no 2nd district candidate for Congress this time. The money Vic Snyder saved this year he build a bigger house.
McCain - North
Now watch two Marines kick terrorist butt!
Worse than that. NO GOP candidates for the other 3 House seats OR the U.S. Senate, the one it held just 6 years ago (and the seat Huckster intended to run for 12 years ago but thinks he’s too good for now). In a state McCain will carry, the GOP will remain outnumbered 5-1 (when it was 3-3 in 2000). Outrageous.
Susan Combs: I helped her out a bit in her last election. She’s taller than most any man and way smarter than most. She would be great.
I hope McCain makes a wiser decision than Obama.
It appears the drowning Obama reached out and grabbed an anchor when he selected Biden....
Their ticket should read: Dumb and Dumber
What does that mean?
I agree, but I also think it would be tacky to announce during the Dem Convention.
I don't like to see our side stooping to the Dems' level.
He thinks he is more than half clever with all his ignorant cliches and I swear he can't say two sentences without throwing in at least one and most likely more than one.
I hope you are right.
Hopefully, hes not that stupid.
Good chance McCain will take Mike Huckabee. Romney.
See how easy it was to correct your major blunder?
I would go for a military hero for a VP.
My two choices, not in this particular order:
1. Colin Powell
2. Stormin’ Norman Schwartzkopf
Boo ya!
Two Veterans that would make Obama and Biden do push ups and scrub the toliets with their toothbrushes.
They’re both near photo-finish bad, but Huckster is still an inch behind Slick Willard (because, after all, there is still 1 Republican left in major office in Arkansas — Slick Willard would’ve taken the last one out).
You wish. You’d probably crawl across broken glass to vote for him then.
Some of love our country more than we want to throw a temper tantrum and ‘teach the GOP a lesson’!
Colin Powell is an LBJ Democrat. He is not a Conservative. Norman Schwarzkopf is 74.
If you want military, you’ll have to go with Gen. Petraeus, but we don’t know where he stands on the issues, unfortunately.
Remember that it took a Carter to get a Reagan.
Some of us...
I would love it if it is Gen Petraeus
I just don’t see how he would be able to do this. The UCMJ makes it clear you can not run for public office while in uniform. In fact, they just made it even more difficult for reservists to do this effective this year.
