The United States believes that senior Iraqi scientists were helping to produce elements of the nerve agent VX at the factory in the Sudan that American cruise missiles destroyed last week, Administration and intelligence officials said today.
The evidence cited today as justification for the attack consisted of a soil sample secretly obtained months ago outside the factory, the Shifa Pharmaceutical Industries, the officials said. Publicly, the Administration has refused to describe its evidence in any detail, or to say how it was obtained.

The connection with Iraq emerged as a key part of the Administration's argument for why it was justified in launching cruise missiles in another country without warning. The disclosure suggested that the plant had become a pressing concern of the United States even before the embassy bombings in Africa, but concern was heightened because of links of Osama bin Laden, the suspect in the bombings, and the Sudan Government.

"We see evidence that we think is quite clear on contacts between Sudan and Iraq. In fact, El Shifa officials, early in the company's history, we believe were in touch with Iraqi individuals associated with Iraq's VX program."
Thomas Pickering, August 25, 1998
"We are concerned about the possibility Iraq may have made an agreement with Sudan to allow it to continue its pursuit of chemical weapons without being subject to the scrutiny of UN weapons inspectors. We have evidence of ties between Sudan's chemical weapons aspirations, the Shifa facility and other chemical weapons actors. And there is evidence that Sudan sought help in the pursuit of a CW capability from other countries, principally Iraq."
James Foley, August 27, 1998 (recommend you listen to this NPR audio link)
I read that as
"Iraq, WMD's, Obama..."
LOL!
Of course. Those of us who were there are the time remember all the stories about Iraq and weapons of mass destruction.
The change of story emerged when the Democrats decided to begin their slow-motion coup against the United States after the 2000 elections. I won’t be surprised if an Obama administration holds show trials for Bush officials about “lying” leading up to the Iraq war, with WMD at the center of those trials.

“President Clinton, in January of 2000 did your adminsitration turn over to your successor, inteligence gathered by the CIA during your term that confirmed the Iraqi potential to develope and use WMD’s?”
Clinton: “Yes”.
Wow...
The “selective memory” of the media (and marxists, and masses) is... ‘mazing.

Oops! I meant ‘O’mazing...
In Feb 1998, I was at Columbus, OH for a ‘town hall meeting’ with Albright, Berger and Cohen to discuss actions against Iraq.
Unfortunately, it didn’t go so well while the audience shouted. “One, two, three, four, we don’t want your racist war!” The audience was comprised of CPUSA members.
The war didn’t start in 2003 for those of you in Rio Linda.

Clinton: That depends on what your definition of 'intelligence' is..."
