NEW YORK (Reuters) - A Deutsche Bank executive is suing a son and a brother of Delaware Sen. Joe Biden for at least $10 million over a deal they had to buy into a hedge fund, according to court documents.
Stephane Farouze, who is global head of fund derivatives for Deutsche Bank and lives in London, claimed that Biden’s son Hunter and brother James broke a May 2006 contract and defrauded him after agreeing to buy his membership interests in New York-based Paradigm Companies LLC.
The lawsuit filed in New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan in June names Washington lobbyist Hunter Biden, James Biden, and James’s former business partner Anthony Lotito as defendants.
On Wednesday, Farouze’s lawyer Marlen Kruzhkov said that the Bidens “never had any intention of carrying out the agreement with my client”.
He said the Bidens and their lawyers have not responded to the complaint.
Representatives for the Bidens could not immediately be reached for comment.
The lawsuit said that while the Bidens took control of the company, they never paid Farouze the cash they had agreed to pay.
Sen. Biden is a Delaware Democrat who was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 1972. He has been mentioned as a possible vice presidential candidate on Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential ticket.
The lawsuit is the second accusing Biden’s relatives of irregularities in their deal to buy hedge fund firm Paradigm. An earlier lawsuit was filed by Lotito in January 2007.

Folks who vote for McCain can prove to pollsters that they aren’t racist, if they make sure to mention that they are voting against a white man — Joseph Robinette Biden.

WHAT THE HECK IS THAT ABOUT.
Diana,
I’m no go at starting posts but I believe your info should be in a post by itself.
Very interesting.
Obama was at 100% for that also.
“....Delaware senator Joe Biden’s son, R. Hunter Biden, provides another example: In 2003, The New York Times reported, he joined MBNA America Bank, the huge credit card empire, as a management trainee after graduating from Yale Law School. He moved up the ladder, becoming executive vice president, and now is a partner of Oldaker, Biden & Belair, a D.C. lawyer-lobbyist shop. In that capacity during 2003, he got a $100,000 annual retainer from MBNA to advise the company on ‘the Internet and privacy law.’
“As it turns out, MBNA is Senator Biden’s biggest contributor. According to the Center for Responsive Politics, Biden raised $147,700 from MBNA employees from 1999 to 2004. MBNA’s ties to the Bidens might seem ironic since the firm is usually viewed as a big Republican campaign fundraiser and was George W. Bush’s sixth-largest contributor during last year’s presidential campaign, with a total of $356,350....”
Lotito claims that he introduced Hunter Biden to Paradigm executives in January 2006 to help Biden find work outside of lobbying. According to Lotito’s complaint, Sen. Biden said he was concerned that Hunter Biden’s lobbying might affect his planned presidential campaign.
McCain's ad writers should send the Obama campaign a fruit basket, in gratitude.
I actually thought they were going to select someone with gravitas to counterbalance the Bambi. Instead, we are blessed with a plagiarizing narcissist with a fast draw lip, an entire history of exploitable gaffes and a family of hedge-fund owning cheap crook lobbyists.
They didn't vet him properly and now they can't throw him under the bus. Plus, he's an old rich white guy who will certainly not mollify the PUMAs. Life is good.
Biden, lobbyists help UD (University of Deleware) get earmarks
June 8, 2008
After years of relying on grants and contracts for federal funding, former University of Delaware president David Roselle in 2002 saw an opportunity to boost the university’s take of billions in discretionary money.
The National Group earned $4.1 million last year, lobbying mainly for health services and education clients, including UD, Texas Tech University, Widener University and Philadelphia University, according to Opensecrets.org. It also represents corporate clients.
Like most lobbyists, the members of the firm are active political contributors.
Those who list their occupation as either The National Group or Oldaker, Biden & Belair, which also has a government-relations practice, have collectively donated $140,000 to political committees and lawmakers this campaign cycle, including $12,850 to funds controlled by Sen. Biden, according to Opensecrets.
Oldaker has served for 25 years as general counsel for Biden’s campaigns, and more recently as general counsel for Biden’s leadership political action committee, Unite Our States. During his 2008 presidential campaign, Sen. Biden paid Oldaker, Biden & Belair almost $86,000 for legal services. He still owes the firm $52,000.
Oldaker, a former Federal Election Commission lawyer and general counsel for Sen. Ted Kennedy’s presidential campaign in 1980, also served for a short time as the assistant treasurer for Unite Our States. Oldaker stepped down from Biden’s PAC when government watchdogs assailed the practice of lobbyists signing off on campaign contributions.
But until just recently, an Oldaker, Biden & Belair employee has served as either the PAC’s treasurer or assistant treasurer and the bank where the PAC was depositing its funds was co-founded by Oldaker, who is also on the board of directors.
After a reporter made inquiries, the PAC dropped its treasurer and custodian of records — both Oldaker, Biden & Belair employees — and switched banks, according to an amended statement of organization filed with the FEC on May 29.
‘Severed all ties’
Lobbying reports filed with the FEC show Hunter Biden, now 38, lobbied for National Group clients, such as universities, hospitals and the San Mateo County (Calif.) Sheriff’s Department, between 2003 and 2006. He has not lobbied for the University of Delaware, reports show.
Sen. Biden’s office said Hunter “severed all ties” with The National Group in 2006 before a Senate Ethics Bill passed, requiring senators to certify that they or their families would not benefit from directed spending items or tax benefits they are seeking. The 2007 law, for which Biden voted, also requires senators to prohibit their staff from having any contact with the senator’s spouse or immediate family that constitutes lobbying contact.
“All that we have to establish is that we’re not providing any benefits specific to him,” said Sen. Biden’s chief of staff, Luis Navarro. “We meet those requirements.”
Hunter Biden did not respond to a call for an interview. He continues to lobby at Oldaker, Biden & Belair for medical and other academic clients, lobbying disclosure forms show. But he does not now receive any income from The National Group, Navarro said. Sen. Joe Biden’s spokeswoman said he was “not available” to discuss this story.
About five years ago, MBNA moved their corporate headquaters to Wilmington, DE from Baltimore,MD to avoid the high corporate taxes in Maryland. Biden probably ‘facilitated’ this move.
Since then the company was bought by Bank of America.
Our 100 senators act like a House of Lords, dispensing largesse from a bottomless pit of money to their allies and families; and solidifying their position of power by said dispensation.
I’ll add it to all Biden-related posts I see from here until Election Day. :)
Please be warned: that was just a quick search. I don’t know the outcome of the trial or anything. Just helped this important thread along. FRegards ....
“Iranian America PAC: 100%”
Chiming in — yeah. That’s an odd one. Was Biden compromised by foreign influence peddlers regarding the war?
Most of the entrenched House members, Democrat and Republican, do the same. All these sobs stopped working for us long ago and do nothing but enrich themselves.
Exactly right. I wonder what our country will be like on its 250th Anniversary. Will we “citizens” be like citizens of Cuba, Venezuela, or just Great Britain and the EU countries.
Gerrymandering has made it almost impossible to get back to rational people representing “majorities” in our Congress. As computer models scribe ever “safer” districts, ever more radical contestants can win seats. And the first ambition of any congressman is to win re-election.
I mourn!
