After Republican presidential hopeful John McCain couldn't specify the number of homes he owns, Democratic opponent Barack Obama slammed him for not having "a very clear sense of what ordinary Americans are goin' through."

Anyone with the amount of money that the McCains have must certainly have investments in real estate. I'm sure also that Senator McCain does not manage all of his investments personally.
But I have also seen a new report that one of the Senator's representatives has just stated that he wasn't able to answer the question because he was a POW: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/08/21/mccain_spokesmans_retort_obama.html
I think that this is a mistake. I fear that at this is a weak response and will devalue this period of his personal history. It is only a matter of time until other POWs come forward to point out that their time in enemy hands would not excuse them from the things that Senator McCain's 5-1/2 years in captivity has been used to excuse -- first the infidelity, and recently the breach of rules at Saddleback. McCain has responded to these issues by other means, yet his surrogates continue to use his captivity as a reason.
I'm just saying that I think that this is unwise...
What breach of rules at Saddleback?
If Obama was asked how much money he had in his account, and to name his investments, I’m sure that he couldn’t. It’s probably like parent’s with alot of kids. Sometimes they get the number wrong. McCain’s inability isn’t an issue. They are playing the old “rich Republican” card. Well, Obama isn’t one of “the people”. He’s a fat cat too. So what? The difference is clear. McCain wants everyone to prosper. Obama wants to tax them.
He just told the truth: he didn’t know.
What he should have added: My wife Cindy handles all of that!
That would have demonstrated that his wife is a powerful independent woman of her own, it would have brought smiles to the majority of women voter’s faces, and it would be the truth. Cindy McCain handles the family real estate deals.
I think you’re right, he’s using it as an excuse too much, soon all they’ll have to say is “every sentence he utters contains a noun, a verb, and I was a POW for 5 years”. It’s going to lose it’s effectiveness if he uses it as an excuse for everything.
well, Obama was on food stamps growing up and went to those schools on scholarships so of the two how’s he the rich elitist? It’s easier to make that argument about McCain, I imaging as an Admiral’s son he didn’t want for much growing up.
The “Average Joe” isn’t on food stamps. The Average Joe works for his money to pay the bills. Aside from community hustler, er, “organizer”, what job has Obambi held?
McCain was in a no win on the house question. I would guess that most of the homes are in his wife’s name or in a trust as investments. And so what? I seem to remember a certain Senator, his name escapes me but I do recall he was in Vietnam, whose wealthy wife owned many properties. I seem to remember he even borrowed money on one of the properties to promote his campaign. Maybe marrying well is a Senate tradition?
And besides, Obama would have just made a list of them so he could confiscate them like a Commie should he win.
This is a Commie question.<0> Well, Hey Obambi, how many diamond necklaces does your wife own , huh??? Does she know what ordinary AMericans are going through? Do you Obama? (Obama is from the privileged class created by having virtually everything handed to him on a platter, education etc.)
Johno worked and sacrified and laid out his life on the line. That makes a big difference.
And here is Obama , emphasizing that difference? Keep it up Obambi. You're doing GREAT!!!
What breach of rules at the Saddleback forum? The following is from http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,406184,00.html
Can you explain your accusation?
WARREN: Well, Sean, and Alan, it’s good to be on the program, but it’s a totally bogus issue. It’s challenging the integrity of the Secret Service, challenging the integrity of — my security staff, and challenging the integrity of John McCain of which both Barack and John agreed to the terms right up front.
There’s no way he could have heard the questions. The fact is that John McCain did get there a little late, and the truth is, I actually got to tell Barack Obama about one of the questions in advance that I didn’t get to tell John McCain about because he wasn’t there.
I intended to tell both of them about my challenge to ask for a commitment regarding orphans, and because John hadn’t arrived when we went on stage, he — you know, he didn’t get to hear that question, so actually, it was Barack who got a question answered in advance, and John McCain did not.
I rather have a president that knows how many states are in the union than how many homes his wife owns.
That would have garnered the "traditional family" vote, eh?
Hers, mine and ours.
What a lovely, progressive, couple.
That's not what he said. If you are going to comment on the article, at least quote it correctly. He said "This is a guy who lived in one house for five and a half years -- in prison," referring to the prisoner of war camp that McCain was in during the Vietnam War. He didn't say that was why he wasn't able to answer the question. Obviously he was making a point of the fact that McCain could relate to hardship.
At what level is this "spokesman" Rogers?
At what level is this "spokesman" Rogers?
I don’t recall the dems having a problem with the many houses and properties owned by John Kerry & Teresa. Why isn’t anybody mentioning that?
