Walter Reed August 15, 2008, MOONBAT MESSIN on a HOT SUMMER NIGHT
Usually mid-August in Washington is hot, humid and quiet as the final weeks of summer vacation wind down. Severe showers were predicted but only a few sprinkles appeared which didnt dampen our high spirits. Tonight at Walter Reed, a motivated and enthusiastic group of FReepers, visitors, soldiers and a steady stream of honking cars focused on supporting our troops and their families.
Last week, Tom the Redhunter, wrote about crazy man and his demoralizing posters in our area. We took down a couple of posters that had been put up before we arrived. Cindy_True_Supporter also policed up a good quantity of plastic bottles and wrappers in our area which is normally clean. This is noteworthy only because it seemed like an intentional effort to litter where we stand. Visitors Uncle Jimbo and Jonn, joined by several others went down to the Moonbat area, a half block away and tried to join them with Russia: Get Out of Georgia signs. The Moonbats, of course, being of one track, narrow-minds, failed to understand the bonding attempt, and were upset at this effort to join them.
Ms Trooprally provides the short video at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmAYt8VnIwE
We were very glad to see Jimmy Valentines Brother again. He has been Absent With Leave while recovering from an ankle injury. His booming voice complimented VictoryNYs shout-outs were heard up and down Georgia Ave all night. VictoryNY brought red roses and handed them out throughout the night to soldiers and their children.
At one point, a loud siren announcing an ambulance was heard. It the first time we have seen the new large state of the art EMT ambulance. It has full medical facilities and carries wounded warriors from Andrews Air Force Base to Walter Reed. As it passed us and went slowly into Walter Reed there was silence and more then a few silent prayers and lumps in our throats. The sacrifices our soldiers make for us are not forgotten. This is why we are at Walter Reed. As always we had good pizza and soda. We are always looking for troop supporters to stop by and visit. Parking is free right across from Walter Reeds front gate.

AND VISITORS Really livening up the night were Uncle Jimbo of BlackFive.net http://www.BlackFive.net BlackFive is the premier milblog, with over 12 million hits last year.
And Jonn Lilyea, of ( http://thisainthell.us and www.TheTalon.net ) , but you can see it from here.
They joined with Concretebob http://concretebob.vox.com and TankerBabe, www.tankerbabelc985.vox.com and kept things moving all night.
Uncle Jimbo and Jonn Lilyea are supporters of Free Republic and their milblogs are worth reading.
Concretebob, in addition to being a Freeper (and responsible for our four corners at Walter Reed) is the Chapter Leader of DCProtestWarriors.
Daniel from Bethesda and a rising senior at WJ HS had a night off from his summer job and joined us. Steve, the biker, wanted to discuss the Russian invasion, he had Georgia on his mind.
Mark, from Massachusetts, and works at Defend Democracy.org was a first time visitor. Chris, from Massachusetts, is a medic at WR had finished his shift and we gave him a ride to the Silver Spring Metro at 9 pm. Another Massachusetts native, Ed, stopped by. He was wearing a Veterans for Peace hat and thought we were the moonbats. We directed him down to the losers where he fit in better.
During this evening several soldiers and their families were returning from walks as were a number of individual soldiers. They saw an enthusiastic group on all four corners of the front gate of Walter Reed supporting their military service.
At 9:30pm, two buses with troops and families returned from dinner to waves and cheers from our group.

BTT! Good work!
The “Through the Night” insignia is from the 301st Army Security Agency Battalion. I believe it was redesignated as a Company within the 501st Military Intelligence Battalion attached to the 1st Armored Division. They kind of came and went as needed in the post Korean War Army, never existing for longer than five or six years at a time. I'm sure someone else around here knows much more about them.
They probably don't even know where Georgia is.
Nice AAR, kburi!
Lookin’ good, cb!
I’m glad I didn’t bet on no one knowing, concentric c’s.
It’s from the 301st ASA Bn, 358 ASA Co, 82nd Airborne Dn, Ft Bragg, 1967 ( a very active year at Bragg).
IAT me, one other Walter Reed supporter wears the “Through the Night” insignia. He served in the early 70’s.. Small World, isn’t it?
There is more. but that’s for another time.
Hope you enjoy the blog links of last week.
;)
LOL! Make no mistake, you are the recipient of my very best hug, ever. And that’s sayin’ alot : ) I’ve got alot of hugs under my belt.
