Stephanie Tubbs Jones (D-OH) Dies of Aneurysm at 58
Fox News Alert | 08-20-08 | Fox News Live

Posted on 08/20/2008 11:14:54 AM PDT by KJC1

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones, the first black woman to represent Ohio in Congress, died Wednesday evening at a Cleveland area hospital after suffering an aneurysm.

Tubbs Jones, 58, chaired the House Ethics Committee and was one of Hillary Clinton’s biggest supporters during the Democratic primaries.

The liberal Democrat, first elected in 1998, suffered a brain hemorrhage while driving her car in Cleveland Heights Tuesday night, said Dr. Gus Kious, president of Huron Hospital. He said the “very serious” hemorrhage was caused by an aneurysm that burst in an inaccessible part of her brain.

Her death was announced late Wednesday in a statement from the family, Huron Hospital and the Cleveland Clinic. They said she died at 6:12 p.m.

I know she was a big Hillary supporter - was she also a Super Delegate?

Yes, she is a super-delegate. Hillary has lost 3 of them over the last week. The chairman of the Democratic Party in Arkansas was murdered last week. Feinstein broke her leg and won't attend. Now Jones won't be there either.

Several media outlets were reporting that she had passed way, but doctors say her condition is critical, but Tubbs Jones has very limited brain function.

Doctor Gus Kiosk says that the aneurysm is in an area they cannot reach through surgery.

I don’t know much about her, but may she rest in peace.

Seems the media is once again confused about the difference between dead and alive. It’s a very confusing concept for them.

Sorry I think the scan that they are starting to offer at little to no cost does not deal with cranial aneurysms. They do find it cost effective to preemptively repair abdominal aneurysms.

I didn’t think anything could be done for those with a propensity for an aneurism, then a colleague who had suffered migraines went in for an MRI and they caught one very close to going and surgically intervened. That was four years ago - he’s fine, lecturing and enjoying his 60s.

Sad news. My sympathies to her family and those who loved her. It is tragic to lose one so young.

Reporting voting returns in Chicago and Philadelphia will do that to you...

I think what’s more disgusting is that posts had to be removed from this thread. Regardless of her party, she is a PERSON who has a FAMILY who loves her.

The only negative thing I have to say is either on the hospital or the reporters. About two hours ago, the news reported she was in stable condition. A lot they knew!

Huliq News (whoever they are) is now reporting that it’s confirmed she died. But their sources don’t seem to agree. http://www.huliq.com/66640/5/cbs-tubbs-jones-stricken-not-expected-recover .

Agreed—a prayer for her and her family offered as well.

I’m sure she was looking forward to going to Denver next week.

Depending on where the aneurysm is located, surgery is a possibility. We have a friend who got lucky in this way, when a CAT scan showed the problem. One operation later, and he was out of danger. However, it sounds like the Congress-woman’s aneurysm was in a spot that probably couldn’t have been helped even with a lucky catch.

This, of course, brings up an interesting dilemma. If you were told that you had a possibly correctable condition but in a totally inaccessible location, would you even want to know of the condition?

Truly, I don’t know what you mean. Deep in my heart I know that it was wrong to feel the way I did about Teddy’s diagnosis. Fine. Most all on FR also were Christian about the whole thing. But it rubs me wrong (and it should rub you wrong too) to see that Christian kindness is reserved for fat, rich, evil, white men who kill innocent women in their cars, but if you’re a dirty low-life shoplifter, female and statistically likely to be black, then your HORRIBLE DEATH (as oppososed to being merely ill like Teddy) is a cause for celebration. Wealthy, evil white man who kills a woman and wants my guns gets Christian kindness. Poor black woman who SHOPLIFTS and dies HORRIBLY gets laughed at. Something wrong here?

Who does FoxNews think will be named to replace her?

No one will be named to replace her but rather her successor will be chosen in a special election.

Apples and oranges. Unless you can show that driving off a bridge causes cancer, there is no irony connecting the two events - and the irony is what generates the humor.

But aside from that, it takes real chutzpah to come into a thread where people are actually acting respectfully, and try to stir it up in such a manner. I can picture you barging in on someone's funeral, and interrupting the eulogy to rant in the aisles that the speaker said nasty things to some homeless guy outside. I believe there's an obscure phrase in use that says "two wrongs don't make a right".
