The latest Reuters/Zogby telephone survey shows McCain leads Obama by a 46% to 41% margin among likely voters.
And McCain not only enjoys a five-point edge in a two-way race against Obama, but also in a four-way contest including liberal independent candidate Ralph Nader and Libertarian Bob Barr, the poll reveals. In the four-way contest, McCain wins 44% support, Obama 39%, Barr 3% and Nader 2%.
This latest Reuters/Zogby poll is a dramatic reversal from the identical survey taken last month in the July 9-13 Reuters/Zogby survey, Obama led McCain, 47% to 40%. In the four-way race last month, Obama held a 10-point lead over McCain.
This latest live operator telephone survey was conducted Aug. 14-16, 2008 from Zogbys call center in Upstate New York. It included 1,089 likely voters nationwide, and carries a margin of error of +/- 3.0 percentage points.

That would sure buck tradition. So I'll have to say it's a long shot.
But Obama's giving in to the Hillary camp and allowing her name to be placed in nomination (this could turn into the Hillary Clinton show even while giving Obama the nomination), along with his upcoming Invesco field love fest (a Berlin repeat?), could well turn it into a slight negative for Obama.
1. It could show Obama as being unable to handle his defeated opponent; how can we expect him to handle strong World leaders? 2. Another Obama tour-de-farce that's all about his monumental ego will turn voters off.
No predictions. The MSM and pollsters are in Obama's pocket. But, it could get very interesting...
I was watching C-Span last night, specifically a very interesting re-run of an in-depth interview with Tammy Bruce. Ms. Bruce indicated that her trek toward the right ideologically began with the feeling of being duped by Bill Clinton, whom she had voted for twice. We all know that Bill had to purport to be someone he is not, (and he did it better than anyone before or since) in order to get elected.
Liberals have correctly ascertained that if they are going to win a general election, then they must camouflage their true (socialist) beliefs. Thus we see "nuance". We see and hear obfuscation, pretzel logic, subterfuge, and verbal smoke and mirrors in answer to simple questions. Al Gore, and then John Kerry also (rightly again) saw the need to dodge questions and overall, give non-answers. I believe there is a cumulative effect here. (Fool me once....)
The questions have now begun to arrive for Obama, and it is infintely easier now for those who have their antenna up, and women do, to discern the evasion. The contrast between Obama's non-answers to questions, and McCain straight, short, sometimes refreshingly terse answers, couldn't be more stark. Every candidate has a style of communicating that's either appreciated or isn't, but in the end it comes down to questions that the voters want answered, and straight answers have come to be more valued, over time, I believe because of Clinton, Gore, and Kerry.
Consider the source, I am merely a man, but I believe that most women would admit that one of their biggest fears (and perhaps memory) is being duped by a man who purports to be someone he is not.
If you'll visit the Zogby site, the data bear out the fact that the acute change here has been among the largest cohort-women.
Don’t get me wrong, I know you reported Zogby’s numbers correctly.
I don’t trust Zogby’s numbers.
During last nights scripture study I was chatting with at least 4 people who normally vote Dem. They now, are not only NOT voting for Obama, but are voting for McCain.
I sure HOPE it’s true, but I chalk it up right now to “too good to be true.”
I agree with you there, but it does appear to be a good sign. Lets hope it continues.
Depends on whether she's leading the inevitable riots from the front, or from the rear...
I do admit that Obama is not going into the convention with the kind of strength you would think he should have. He's not growing his base, or even sliding sideways; he's darn near free-fall. Is this by design, or by his own incompetence? I'm not sure which scenario is worse.
Regardless, I think there are Obama backers who will not be satisfied with anyone other than Obama with the nomination. I would say his backers are fervent enough to vehemently protest, if Hillary steps in his place.
Not to mention extremely huge quantities of Hemlock, requests from state "health care services" for euthanasia resources, and other life ending devices.
If I had given that reply to my Late Father-(Ex-Army-Sergeant-Military Police), I do not think it would go over to well./Just Asking - seoul62........
A drop of 11 points in 4 catagories is amazing. I believe this was taken BEFORE the Saddleback Froum.

>>If Hillary tries to take over at the convention, what do you see as her chances of succeeding?<<
Zero. If the Dems had rational nominating rules, she would have been their nominee. But with them everything boils down to victim status, and that is what is carrying Obama. Barring some horrible scandal, they are simply too consumed with white guilt not to nominate him.
>>I am breathlessly awaiting this story to lead my Yahoo.com news page . . . . . . . .<<
Ha. I was thinking the same thing. This is double plus non-news to the orwellians at yahoo.
“It’s above my pay grade,” is turning out into a code word to find out how a person feels about Obama”
Or you can use the sign of Obama. Raise your “interlaced fingers making an O” over your head in public and see if you get one back, LOL!
The way Obama was starting to tank, I wondered how the left (esp. the MSM and the Democrat leadership) would deal with his apparent shortcomings.
I figured the first thing they'd do is admit that he's an underdog and try to establish him in that role.
Next, they would "loyally" and "courageously" maintain their support for him thru the nomination process -- in "the face of almost certain defeat".
Then, as the campaign progressed, they would spin developments to display his "growing strength", "greater gravitas" and "incredible vision". Next thing y'know, he's The Comeback Kid 2.0.
If the MSM and the DNC wanna make lemonade out of this here lemon, that's about the only way they could do it.
And here we are: Step One is underway.
If the question about when life begins is “above his pay grade”, where does he get the audacity to support killing the unborn?
As Ron White says, "If life gives you lemons, you should make lemonade - then find someone to whom life has given vodka, and have a party."
Still, the arithmetic---just as it was for Hillary---is devastating to O.
Nice catch. This is truly an unbelievable swing. Howie Dean’s probably screaming right now. Hillary trying to figure out how to manipulate the supers.
