Defy us and we will crush you... Russia's warning
dailymail.co.uk ^ | 19th August 2008 | Will Stewart

Russia yesterday threatened to 'crush' anyone who dared to defy it, after moving missile launchers within range of Georgia's capital.

The provocative move throws down the gauntlet to Nato leaders meeting today in emergency session on the new Cold War crisis.

U.S. intelligence said the Kremlin had moved several SS-21 missile launchers into the rebel enclave of South Ossetia, putting them in range of Tbilisi.

The move allows Russia to pull out of Georgia proper as it has promised but punish Tbilisi at any moment at the push of a button.

Russian president Dmitry Medvedev vowed a 'crushing response' if Georgia or anyone else dares to defy Moscow's will in the tinderbox Caucasus region. ...

Mr Medvedev was at his most hawkish since the conflict erupted, telling war veterans: 'If someone thinks they can kill our citizens, kill soldiers and officers fulfilling the role of peacekeepers, we will never allow this.

'Anyone who tries to do this will receive a shattering blow.'

His warning followed Russian threats to unleash nuclear weapons on Poland in a future conflict because Warsaw agreed to installations linked to America's defence shield.

Moscow has also indicated that it will arm its Baltic fleet with nuclear weapons.

Awarding medals to servicemen involved in the conflict in Georgia, Mr Medvedev insisted that Russia has always been 'a peace-loving nation'.

He added: 'The Russian, Soviet state has never started a war. But even the most peace-loving state should have an effective army.'

What part will all the russian mafia immigrants into America play? They, too, are well off. Since Russia doesn’t have factories, whose weapons will they buy?

I have always thought that the security measures surrounding the Olympics were cover for Chinese military movements towards Taiwan.

'Anyone who tries to do this will receive a shattering blow.'

Good grief - Medvedev has been taking public relations lessons from his buddy Ahmadinejad. Things are looking up.

Bear Bombers flying off the US east coast>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Roger that,

Before the Georgia Invasion the skys over my home in Northern Vermont were empty except for the occasional high flying commercial A/C.

Now the Green Mountain Boys from Vermont's National Air Guard,158th Fighter Wing , flying F16s, make ( numbers purposefully omitted) sorties over my home each day, on their way to the coast from Burlington, VT, flying Eastward.

God Bless 'em.

Thank you for posting what’s been simmering in my noodle today - yes, “some kind of internal power struggle ?” going on. I can see parts of what this struggle might be; but there’s far more which remains elusive, and certainly not yet revealed.

And don’t forget all the proxy wars that they fought, Korea, Vietnam, Angola, Nicaragua, etc. Not to mention that they sponsored the Arabs, and taught them the use of terror and oil as a weapon.

This is not a power struggle. Putin is clearly and firmly in charge. This is a coming out party, a debutante ball for the Russian empire. They are tired of languishing in the minors and want their place back at the top of a two-nation superpower structure. I don’t think they are ready for it, militarily, but I don’t think we are ready, psychologically, to confront a belligerent with a large force at the ready, and so, the stronger willed aggressor may be able to get away with it. Putin has given himself some wiggle room in case he bites off more than he can chew; so far, we have given him no reason to believe he has overreached.

Oh, I don't know. I sure the Europeans are asking, “Who is next” and “How do we stop the Rabid Bear”? The US is the only game in town, assuming Europeans do not want to be “Borged”.

I am far more worried about the pathetic slobs coming on-line in this country. “Yes we will disband our military if you will just leave us alone, pleeeease”!

Would there be any external sign that they had been fried? Or would it only show up if they did a systems check ... if they even do that before getting ready to fire them.

There was a comedy skit of a conversation between Ber trand Russell and G.E. Moore. It went like this....

Russell: "I see young Moore studying his lessons in the parlor. There's a basket of apples on the table before him. Let's see if I can catch him in a misstatement.....

(Russell enters the parlor)

Russell: "Moore!...Are there any apples in that basket?"

Moore: "No."

Russell (slightly peeved): "Moore!.....Are there some apples in that basket?"

Moore: "No."

Russell (becoming exasperated): "Moore!......Are there apples in that basket?"

To which Moore replied, "Yes."

Point....The Soviets have been behind every conflict since WWII and the Neo Sovs are actively prosescuting this one in Georgia and publically threatening Poland and the Baltic nations. With their support of the former Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein, Syria and Iran, they're behind the WOT also. Let's not parse words.

How about the Russo-Japanese war of 1904 over control of the Liaodong Peninsula since the Russians were in constant persuit of a warm water port on the Pacific Ocean. Vladivostok was only operational during the summer season, but Port Arthur could be operational all year.
The war ended up being a disaster for the Russians, triggered the Russian revolution, and set the wheels in motion for the creation of the USSR.
