Poles in favour of locating missile defence elements in Poland 18.08.2008
The shift in public opinion may be attributed to the Russia-Georgia conflict, writes Rzeczpospolita.
Daily "Rzeczpospolita" has published the findings of a recent survey on public sentiments towards the deployment of the anti-missile shield in Poland. The survey reveals that around 60 percent of Poles are in favour of hosting the missile defence elements in their country, whereas 37 percent are against it. What is more, the majority of those surveyed support the stationing of US contingents in Poland, yet 41 percent continue to firmly oppose it. A sociologist cited by the newspaper has said that it is the crisis in Georgia that has triggered such a change of attitude of the Poles. Over three-fourths of the respondents believe the shield may jeopardize Polands ties with Russia, yet it may in turn, strengthen the countrys international position and security.
Only Old Europe is intimidated by Vlad. Putin has overplayed his hand.
I wish we would move some permanent forces into Poland. The Poles were sold out at the beginning of WWII when we let the Nazis and the Soviets slice them in two and consume their respective portions. We sold them out at the end of the war when we let the Soviets continue to occupy them. They deserve their freedom, and we should do something this time to help them keep it.
Let them eat SS-21s.
Lets hope after they have the missile sites installed, that they will qualify for several squadrons of tank killing A-10 wart hogs, on the order of 500 aircraft. One has a feeling, a certain hunch that the Poles will need tank killers , as Georgia has shown us all.
Its those long flat , wonderful prairie like "marches" that lead all the way to Russia.Good wart hog country.
Módl się za Polska!
I hope the aircraft becomes a major US export to the former USSR buffer republics. If so, current European NATO nations will scream to have those nations admitted to NATO.
None of that Soviet Armor used in Georgia would get through them.
Imagine what really would have happened in Georgia if they had a fleet of 200 A-10s?
Those mountain passes throgh the Caucusus would be plugged solid with frayed and splayed iron.

200 would have been plenty to spare I have a feeling.
The A-10 can save a lot of hand ringing in Europe.
They should start cranking those babies out 24/7 and putting them on the ground in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and other places!
Absolutely. Anything that puts another twist in Putin’s panties works for me. The A10s are built to order for that. Unlike nukes he can count them being deployed if needed.

God bless the Poles.
