"Gentlemen, comrades, do not be concerned about all you hear about Glasnost and Perestroika and democracy in the coming years. They are primarily for outward consumption. There will be no significant internal changes in the Soviet Union, other than for cosmetic purposes. Our purpose is to disarm the Americans and let them fall asleep. We want to accomplish three things:
One, we want the Americans to withdraw conventional forces from Europe. Two, we want them to withdraw nuclear forces from Europe. Three, we want the Americans to stop proceeding with Strategic Defense Initiative."
Quote by: Mikhail Gorbachev (1931- ) General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, the last head of state of the USSR (1985-1991) Date: November 1987 Source: speech to the Soviet Politburo, November 1987
I believe George Soros beat you to it.
Try coordinating Wall Street. It’s like herding cats — ADD cats!
And for the record, I’ve had it up to here with world affairs viewed through the prism of personality.
Zing!
Flooding the markets with sell orders doesn’t cost a dime!
And just what is the proper citing format of a speech made to the Soviet Politburo?
I would suppose it was published somewhere. Otherwise, where it come from?
It seems to me that it is at least questionable whether this is a real quote.
See #28.
Not all speeches made are published. They come from those that attended, their notes, and transcripts.
I really doubt that the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union has opened their archives; but maybe it is available on the CPUSA archives.

Gorby was saying all manner of things of that ilk . . . Many such have been published by reliable publications for a long time.
Search it out.
Well, you make my point. If it wasn’t published, and nobody can say where it came from, there is no resaon to believe it’s real. BTW, I did a google on it, and the only place I find it is whackjob conspiracy theory websites. It is doesn’t seem to appear on any mainstream news, historical society, university, etc. websites.
Well, it’s not a Founding Father, so it’s likely not one of the many David Barton fabrications! :-)
...another reason to vote as if our lives depended on it and that means we need to vote to keep nObama over on Crapital Hill and not in the White House.
Only a vote for McCain will do that. I trust John McCain to be Commander-in-Chief. (I’ll fight him on all his liberal domestic tangents)
>>>the only place I find it is whackjob conspiracy theory websites
If you don’t like FR, why are you here? FR had several hits for previous postings ;)
Frankly, that’s a lie. It isn’t only whackjob conspiracy theory websites that publish it. It was a mainstream Christian book I first read it in maybe 10 years ago. Do you consider Christians whackjob conspiracy theorists?
You are calling me a liar? Based on what? What I said was,
“BTW, I did a google on it, and the only place I find it is whackjob conspiracy theory websites. It is doesnt seem to appear on any mainstream news, historical society, university, etc. websites.”
Just because you claim to have read that quote in a “mainstream Christian book” ten years ago (that you don’t name) doesn’t refute what I wrote in any way. And how does that in any way suggest I think Christians are whackjob conspiracy theorists? Of course a Christian can be a whackjob conspiracy theorist as much as anybody else, but I said nothing about Christians, only about the websites that I found in a cursory search.
Maybe you should consider taking a Logic course.
