LAKE FOREST, Calif.Given the sharp words exchanged between their campaigns in recent weeks, John McCain and Barack Obama put on a good show of civility Saturday at their first joint appearance of the all-but officially begun general election race....
.......Warren asked Obama to define rich: Give me a number.
Obama drew laughter when he briefly hesitated, then quipped: You know if youve got book sales of 25 million
Turning serious toward the end, Obama said: I want people to know me well, and added that if they do, theyre going to make a good decision and were going to be able to solve the big problems that we face.
Asked his definition of "rich," McCain tossed off $5 million, then seemed to recognize this could join the list of comments he has tossed off in the past that have come back to him in attack ads.
I'm sure that comment will be distorted," McCain said. "The point is we want to keep people's taxes low. ... I don't want to raise anybody's taxes."

Well that’s why *I* read the news these days: To find out what liberals wish would happpen ...
And hope that independent voters don't see the actual answer in context on YouTube. That could turn into an inconvenient truth for Obama.
And when did "rich" become measured only by current year taxable income? When even a preacher can't tell the difference, there is much too much emphasis on government policies and tax code in this country.
“”The point is we want to keep people’s taxes low. ... I don’t want to raise anybody’s taxes.””
Sounds clear to me, Mac doesn’t want to raise taxes and he has said numerous times if he’s elected he won’t, while Obambi has made it clear he will. Forget politico, they’re a bunch of former Wash Post and Time liberals, especially former Wash Post White House correspondent Mike Allen.
Shockingly arrogant to even think he sits in the same intellectual bus as Thomas, much less be able to throw him under it.
He said he has no idea ( in so many words ) when a baby becomes a baby. It was above his pay grade to even offer an opinion.
When ask what the most difficult decision he ever had to make.....
Osama Obama said it was whether or not to be against the Iraq war from the start. OK sports fans, he wasn't even in the Senate at the time, had nothing to vote on, and his opinion on the matter couldn't have possibly made one whit of difference to anything or anyone!
When asked about reaching across the isle and working with the other side.....
He mentioned working with McCain on a ethics reform bill. What the idiot forgot to mention was the the bill he worked with McCain on when it came time to vote he stabbed McCain in the back and voted the leftwing position which was 180 deg from what he and McCain worked out on the bill!
...above my pay grade.
So, in other words...he doesn't know.
And apparently, in a case where he doesn't know where life begins, instead of erring on the side of life, and being careful...he is willing, by his own admission then, to go forwards with the killing of millions of children based on his desire to gain power and cater to the feminists.
Disgusting, sickening excuse for morals that.
I don’t see how this could possibly haunt McCain. I think everyone in the country would agree that a net worth of $5 million would make one rich. I don’t see how the liberals could spin this to make McCain look bad really...
On the other hand, Obama saying that if you’re making 250,000 per year DOESN’T mean you’re on “easy street” really shows how out of touch he is (sorry, but if my families income increased from 50,000 to 250,000 I can’t even begin to tell you how “easy” life would be in comparison - heck, even an increase to 150,000 would take away a TREMENDOUS amount of stress! To the point I would consider my family “rich” in comparison to most people.).
Is 150,000 a year REALLY middle class? I suppose it depends on where you live as he said, but I don’t know any blue-collar, traditionally middle class families that make 150,000 per year even with both husband and wife working! IMHO, him saying that 250,000 a year isn’t “that much” is going to come back to bite him more than McCain’s answer.
The $5 million was a joke, and any idiot watching heard the entire thought, not the out of context portion that the Dems will use.
Obama will be reduced to rubble within the next few weeks.
After the crap Politico pulled in the primaries with Huckabee, Thompson, McCain etc... I don’t believe ANYTHING they comment on, really. They lost all respect in my eyes when they ran all those rumors and such. They definitely have an agenda.
If you check the records you find that abortion is now at its lowest level since 1974!
The REAL news of the night was an angry Obama calling folks who point out his repulsive vote on the "Born Alive" bill as "liars". Now THAT would make a fantastic ad.
$5MM net worth is a far more realistic definition of “rich” than $150K/year.
You said exactly what I was thinking way more succinctly than I did. LOL I’m still steamed about Obama’s “understanding” of the world we live in and the incomes most people have. He is so out of touch with the average US family, it’s incredible...
Surprising that, in this setting, no one questioned Obama about so-called “black liberation theology”.
...to go back to community organizing and crooked Chicago politics"
As I understand it, the discussion was about who should be considered rich when it comes to raising taxes. The guy that gives the lower figure loses in this contest. That was Obama. McCain’s $5 million figure was a joke—his way of saying that it’s irrelevant to ask who’s rich, because he’s not going to raise taxes. Period.
