Criticizing the Author (Corsi) and Not the Candidate (Obama)
National Review ^ | Aug 15 2008 | Mark Levin

Posted on 08/15/2008 2:03:59 PM PDT by Presbyterian Reporter

If you read the criticism of the Jerome Corsi book that is picking up speed in the liberal media, you will find much similarity and overlap. The Obama campaign's effort to feed talking points to the media is having some effect. However, it is also feeding curiosity about the author and the book, thereby helping to maintain strong sales.

It's too bad the same media that are so concerned about Corsi's background have been so reticent to do their own homework on Obama. After all, Corsi wrote a book, Obama seeks the presidency. The liberal media were slow to acknowledge the existence of Jeremiah Wright and Bill Ayers, and did so only after talk radio and bloggers would not let Obama escape his close relationship with both. The Chicago media did most of the heavy lifting respecting Obama's relationship with Tony Rezko. And there are many other miscreants and radicals who have played large roles in Obama's personal and professional life. But the liberal media are not interested in looking into most of it, have begrudgingly and superficially addressed it usually after the new media pressed it, and then downplayed it as "guilt by association" — with few exceptions. Not so with their reporting on Corsi. They want to know about anything he has ever said or written and his associations. In his case, they are determinative. And if he got a date wrong here and there in his book, or was otherwise mistaken in some minor way, the entirety of his book is discredited. We are "learning" more about Corsi than we learned about Obama prior to the all important Super Tuesday primaries.

It is not surprising that the media have chosen sides, but it remains frustrating. And this was a frustration of the Clinton campaign and will be for the McCain campaign. Meanwhile, the New York Times had no second thoughts about smearing John McCain on its front page with the thinnest of accusations inferring an affair and unethical lobbying activity. I think it can be said with some confidence that Corsi's standards are superior to those of the Times.

I think Roger Kimball has it about right here. And it should be emphasized that David Freddoso's excellent book on Obama has been all but ignored by the liberal media, but is well worth purchasing.

I bought the book today.

I encourage others to do the same.

The Obama camp had the gall to call Corsi a “fringe bigot,” when Obama himself called his own grandmother a “typical white person.”

Obama is the bigot, and a racist to boot.

And he hung around racists like Rev. James Meeks, Rev. Wright, and liberal white guilt racist Rev. Michael Pfleger.

Obama and his cohorts are saying the whole book is worthless because of a few mistakes.

What person or book is perfect?

They - in effect - use a sweeping generalization by saying that the whole book is worthless.

The book is well documented, and the Obama camp knows this. They attack Jerome Corsi personally (Ad Hominem attacks) by calling him a fringe bigot.

When libs can’t stop a book from coming out, like they tried to with “Unfit for Command,” they attack the author, and say that the whole book is worthless.

Why? They don’t want to go point for point, issue for issue concerning what’s in the book, “Obama Nation.”

Even if there were 1 mistake, they would still call the entire book worthless.

Extremely frustrating, Mark. If the liberal media had done their job, Obama would've lost the nomination. The entire liberal establishment is in the tank for Obama. They want to assure that 2008, isn't a repeat of 2004!

“We are “learning” more about Corsi than we learned about Obama”””

That is a major problem for Obama. As the public learns more about Corsi they will find he has credibility and can back up his statements.

Meanwhile, the public finds out little about Obama.

Obama is digging his hole deeper.

The DUmmies are virtually on suicide watch over Corsi and encouraging flooding Amazon with negative ratings on the book.

Please excuse me now as I shower off the funk from that site.

Levin is spot-on here, and so is Kimball.

I think the Kimball piece should be posted in the forum as well. I defer the honor to you, if you should care to.

Looking for reasons to dislike Obama?, August 13, 2008
By Twain Sam (NJ) - See all my reviews

This book is really hard to read for a person who doesn’t have strong opinions about Obama. The author makes many many vague and hard-to-believe points without much evidence — the target seems to be people who have decided to dislike Obama and are looking for some reasons to really hate him. It’ll also surely provide outrage material for the pro-Obama camp.

If you are truly undecided about Obama, this book is not for you. It is for hard-core partisans. You’ll find it hard to believe much of it and will not understand why the author is harping on certain points. You’ll be much better off reading about his positions in respectable news sources. Consider the souce....., August 14, 2008
By Ratna Love (LA, CA) - See all my reviews

Already proved a sham for his Swift Boat lies (by conservatives as well as liberals) Corsi attempts to spin reality again. Here’s how I see it. We have come through 8 years of the worst Presidency in American history. Conservatives are jumping off the Bush administration boat as fast as they can. Neocon politics have been an undeniable failure as America has lost it’s power and status in the world. The policy of confrontation instead of diplomacy has set us back years. Now Corsi and his ilk want to discredit Obama in an effort to have more of the same. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results each time. The only way to have change is to elect change. Sure, Obama is far from perfect. But at some point you all (who gave this 4-5 stars) are going to have to finally say “Oops, I was wrong.” Let’s just hope it’s not too late when America wakes up. Corsi indeed. Pure Vomit, August 14, 2008
By J. H. Kling Jr. “writer” (Harrisburg, PA) - See all my reviews

Mary Matalin should be ashamed of herself for publishing this book. This is just reprehensible and irresponsible garbage cobbled together to scare voters away from Obama. (Gee, who’da thunk it, right?) I mean, Corsi is still pushing the idea of “Obama the Muslim,” while simultaneously playing up his ties to Obama’s former church in Chicago? So which is it, he’s a “dangerous” Muslim or a “hateful” Christian? Hey, when you’re writing fiction, it can be BOTH! Corsi commits factual errors, such as when he details a Rev. Wright speech and says Obama was present for it, when he known to be hundreds of miles away, in Miami, at the time. Details, details! Corsi says Obama has never publicly stated that he stopped using the drugs that he experimented with as a teenager, when in fact that is something he has spoken about often. Corsi makes it sound like Obama could have been using drugs right up to the present, which is just intellectually dishonest.

In point of fact, this book is mostly conjecture and fear-mongering. Ohhhh, the scary bogey-man! This book can ONLY appeal to those who have some weird irrational fear of Obama. If you need some bizarre conspiracy theorist to make you feel better, waste your money as you see fit. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

384 pages of political hate speech, August 14, 2008
By R. Langari (College Station, TX USA) - See all my reviews

In 2004, Mr. Corsi who never severed in Vietnam saw it fit to denigrate John Kerry’s record with his “Unfit for command.” His association with the discredited Swift Boat Veterans is sufficient to keep any sane person from ever trusting him. His latest book is no different, some 380 pages of unsubstantiated political hate speech and that is all this book is about. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Corsi Does it Again, August 14, 2008
By B. Lawrence “go TCM” (AZ) - See all my reviews

It was in 2004, that Corsi helped launch smear campaign against John Kerry by writing a book of exaggerations and lies. Now he has done it again with Obama.

The only way McCain can win is to spread untruths and and misleading statements about Obama. That way it keeps the focus off McCain’s stand with George Bush and his failed policies.

Check out the facts before accepting anything Corsi says. Better yet, save your money and skip the book.

If it’s in print it must be true......right?, August 13, 2008
By Allen Chapman (STAFFORD SPRINGS, CT USA) - See all my reviews

This book is a blatent attempt to discredit Barack Obama, the author has made no bones about that. By simply stating “facts” in this book it will lead many to believe that what is printed is true. How many people will actually go and do the research to prove otherwise? That’s all the author is hoping for. America, you’re smarter than that I hope and will take this book for what it is, one man’s opinion of a presidental nominee that he doesn’t like. Help other customers find the most helpful reviews

Don’t waste your money, August 14, 2008
By Winston Hayes (Brownfield, ME) - See all my reviews

Whether you support McCain or Obama, this book is complete junk. We voters deserve to get the objective truth about our candidates, so we can make the best possible choice for President in November. However, this book makes absolutely no attempt to be objective in any way, it is a low-class smear job masquerading as journalism. Do your homework voters, and research both candidates. But don’t waste your time or money on trash like this. Oh, and btw, I’m a former republican who is appalled at what has happened to the values of that party. Where in the world is Jerome Corsi?, August 15, 2008
By Victoria A. Wildermuth (Odessa, TX USA) - See all my reviews

Where’s the best place to check out the conspiracy theories of Jerome Corsi? You will often find him on AM talk radio’s Coast to Coast AM, home of UFO buffs, exorcists and psychics. That should give you some idea of what to expect with this book which purports to be investigational journalism. All you need to do to get an idea of how well researched the book is: check out the footnotes, the majority of which refer to Mr. Corsi’s own earlier works. NOT RECOMMENDED under any circumstances. I have over 100 reviews posted on Amazon — please take my advice and leave this one right on the bookshelf. This one is an abomination.

The media were duped by John Edwards and refused to acknowledge what the rest of us knew.....Edwards was a lying phony that would say or do anything to get elected.

That same media is giving Obama a free pass, ignoring the lessons of Edwards.

Bwahahaha, you've got to be kidding, skippy. There are over 650 footnotes (681 is what I counted) and the most common one is an Ibid. There are more than 100 non-corsi references in the book and these are in fact the most cited with Ibid. There is a 23 paged copious index for searching the facts.

The material is not only accurate, it is precise. The picture Corsi paints of the Obamination marxist must really get under your skin to make such a post as this at FR. And you're lying, skippy! The majority of citations are not Corsi works.

When you finish high school (or get that GED behind you), perhaps you'll enjoy reading a few conservative books, actually reading them. Start your real education with BKO's Hell To Pay and from that education about the Alinsky marxism Hillary studied that Obama has fashioned himself from, you will be ready to see the real Obama Corsi reveals.

Notice the dnc talking points campaign that is coming, as revealed by the poster in #15 ... the left will try to paint Corsi as a kook like Alex Jones. This fool thinks FR can’t recognize leftists when they surface. Bwahahahaha I wonder if the poor thing is related to John Feckless Kerry?

Two things worry me about Corsi:
1. He’s a 9/11 truther.
2. His appearances on the radio show: Political Cesspool.
