Russian General Threatens Poland with Attack over US deal
Jerusalem Post ^ | 15 Aug 2008 | Associated Press

Posted on 08/15/2008 6:40:42 AM PDT by docbnj

A top Russian general said Friday that Poland's agreement to accept a US missile defense battery exposes the country to attack, pointing out that Russian military doctrine permits the use of nuclear weapons in such a situation, the Interfax news agency reported. *** Interfax said he added, in clear reference to the agreement, that Russia's military doctrine sanctions the use of nuclear weapons "against the allies of countries having nuclear weapons if they in some way help them." Nogovitsyn said that would include elements of strategic deterrence systems, according to Interfax.

"Mother Russia still holds considerable influence over Cuba. I wonder if we should warn them that any attempt to assist the Cubans militarily would result in nuclear retaliation."

Send the Brothers to swim with the fishes, then paper the country with a list of every Soviet advisor on the island. Bring to a boil for 72 hours, let simmer for a week, then fly in with a 'relief' division because soup's on!

I’m sincerely wanting to understand, but can’t remember the name of the “news commentator”, hence the label. I’m guessing it had to be someone on Fox News.

I think it was Shep. He precedes every report on the situation with that precursor.

I'm not an expert either, but I believe Abkhazia and South Ossetia are territories within sovereign Georgian borders. However, they are territories sympathetic to Russians and have been ruling themselves. Russia had built up a presence in these Georgian regions and Georgia tried to take them back.

I agree. Let’s take care of the Commies in Washington and at the State level. And if this is Gov of California, then bravo on standing up to the Commies in your State sir. They are continuing to bankrupt it and legislate insane policies turning Southern California into a *hithole. Never mind breaking the law by the Comptroller saying it’s a computer issue with Cobolt. Yeah, the land of Silicon Valley can’t clone Cobolt software with code translation programs. I am surprised you haven’t gotten out the Conan sword. Lou Ferrigno style defeat to the Commies there!

This naked Soviet aggression, this attack on a sovereign nation, this cold dip in the reality pool only has one silver lining -- that it puts every Red-dipped Obama supporter to the lie, starting with his opening act for his May rally in Portland, The Decemberists, who insist on playing -- without a hint of irony -- the Soviet National Anthem before every show!

Who is going to vote for this kind of moron? Is anyone even going to call out Obama for the shame of this?

More like 1934 to me, weakening Western economy. We had better learn from WWII and how to kickstart of GDP. Energy is the key of course but too many Rats in government right now. That will make it more difficult.

If nobama gets in, he will be in way over his head...

He hasn't achieved his personal goal of POTUS as of yet and already has shown to be way over his head IMO.

True. But you do see the basic fundamental difference that person tried to make, don’t you?

It is not a trivial one.

It’s not just “left-wing wackos”. This was exactly the story told to all Russian Citizens over their breakfasts this morning on the news... It’s already “all over” YouTube - from the NWO’ers to the “mainstream” dems. At this point it’s hard to tell who created the “theory” - the Russians, or the left here in the U.S.. I think it’s probably the MOST annoying thing about all of this - the incredible idiocy of the left in believing Russian propaganda. They are so convinced that Bush and Cheney are like gods, and everything the U.S. does is so wrong that they can’t even see through the REAL heavy-duty propaganda put out by the “masters”. Useful idiots - the lot of them.

LMAO!

Those are cool dusters they are wearing though.

Nobama’s would say ‘I went on a world tour and all I got was this duster in exchange for nuclear missile defense!

actually they are saying that in a conflict (with the US, presumably), options currently on the table would include nuclear weapons.

They are not saying they are going to nuke poland simply because the missile shield exists.

incidentally, this is just public posturing. If you think about it, if it reaches the point that a nuke is used on poland, you can bet the US is going to have far greater issues on the table than that. In other words, world war III. Whether poland is a nuke target is almost meaningless in the bigger picture, unless you are a Pole.

Folks here are barking like they are supposed to, but I am far more interested in the very real issue developing with the ukranian port for the black sea fleet.

Presumably the issue with the missile shield is it makes the russian nuclear deterrent less effective. IF the US was suddenly faced with the prospect of no longer having an effective nuclear deterrent against, say, russia or china, folks here would be going nuts.

In strategic terms, it is a big deal, particularly if the system eventually has a very high % intercept rate.

“Not true. At least that’s not the stated reason. We are supplying a missile shield to protect against Iranian (and other rogue nations) missiles.”

Under what circumstances would the polish component of the system be useful from missiles originating in Russia? (I don’t know)

That is what matters, not what the stated use of the system is.

Well the Ukranian’s are now alert, and the Ukraine is a far different scenario.

I think it was important and I am glad that the Ukraine early on re-asserted their national sovereignty as too their actions toward Russia.

This “top Russian general” is Anatoly Nogovitsyn, one of Russia’s deputy chiefs of General Staff. He has been giving daily media briefings recently on Georgia. According, to another article, the Kremlin uses people like him to state policy indirectly. This is no stray general, but the policy of Russia.

The missile shield must be built as quickly as possible, with Russia in mind.
