The end of Obama's golden days
Abilenen Reporter News ^ | Aug. 15, 2008 | Jay Ambrose

Remember the good old days when Barack Obama was campaigning for president on the vacuous pledges of hope and change without saying exactly what changes we should hope for? Well, now he's beginning to fill in the blanks with actual policy proposals, and it's becoming clearer by the minute that vacuous was better.

For starters, there's his comprehensive plan to control global warming and gain energy independence through a bureaucratic nightmare of controls, technological razzle-dazzle, discredited biofuel reliance and spending you wouldn't believe. In just a couple of decades, our oil consumption will be down 35 percent, he says, but here's my guess -- the only thing going down will be the economy.

Our hero isn't through yet, however, because he has this vision of taking alternative fuels that now produce a minute percentage of our energy needs and -- through legislation and big bucks -- prodding them into producing huge amounts of those needs. Someday we will likely have some technological breakthroughs of significance, but we have incentives enough to accomplish that in the free market, and we know for a fact that you cannot mandate new technology through the passage of bills.

Oh, ye of little faith. It may appear based on cold-hearted facts that even if there is a solar panel on every roof and a windmill in every backyard that we couldn't possibly power more than 10% of the economy.

But you are not counting on The Chosen One performing The Miracle Of The Solar And The Wind.

Yes, my FRiend, especially wind. I think a great deal of wind is being blown out by the left this year.

I like it! Grat job. :)

If we could harness all the hot air coming from Obama and the Democrats, we could solve the energy crisis and eliminate global warming. ;)

"The end of Obama's golden days"

Yup.

The Denver Convention will probably solidify that theory.

One of the respondents to the video is an Obambi supporter and believes that The One shall usher-in an era of peace, plenty, and lollipops for all. Man, someone needs to stop dropping acid.

When I was growing up, profit was the incentive that developed new technologies. When did this change, when we got to the moon? Kennedy said it and we did it. It looks so easy. What was the line from the Ten Commandments Movie, So it is written, so it is done?

Now we have people like Obama, and the entire Democrat Party for that matter, telling the country that they can Legislate Innovation.

How unfortunate that more and more people lack the common sense needed to realize how stupid this is. Maybe it's the special effects in the movies that makes someone think all this magic is easy to come by. I think it comes down to having lazy minds. Unfortunately, it appears that most people in this country, especially young people, are spoiled and incapable of reason.

Since Congress is full of Lawyers, not Engineers, I laugh when they come up with some kind of magic number they can apply it to everything from toilets to cars.

Obama’s new magic number is 40 MPG for revised CAFE standards. Where this number comes from is a mystery to me.

It is like the Minimum wage. Why stop at $7.50 an hour? Make it $10 an hour. No, make it $50. Why stop there? Make it $100 an hour and everybody's rich. Liberals agree with you until you hit about $20 per hour. Anything above that and they get uneasy. They say that you're getting ridiculous, and I always ask why.

The whole premise of attaching an arbitrary number to anything is childish at best and idiotic in it premise.

Sorry to go off topic a bit, but I cannot believe we have a Socialist Dreamer like the Messiah within spitting distance of the Presidency. I am more than perplexed, I am frightened.

So true. Let’s declare a minimum wage of a million and then we can all be millionaires.

Let’s declare new standards for cars and we can eliminate air pollution.

Let’s declare 100% recycling for trash and we’ll eliminate landfills.

It’s like they think they have a magic wand or something.

The more Obama opens his piehole, the more he sounds like a fifth-grader who just started his first social studies course. Every major proposal he’s made has been straight out of My Leftist Weekly Reader.

Oh, that's an easy one. I just can't say it here.

The messiah is not a socialist dreamer, he is a socialist liar. We've only seen a few hints of what he really plans for this country, for example, a civilian force to rival the military. Can you say KGB?

When I think of what this country could really be if the politicians left us alone, it brings tears to my eyes.

I'm with you. It's the most frustrating thing to think about.

Why do control freaks act the way they do?

The B.O. maniacs are whining about the “status quo”, and that if B.O. isn’t elected, there will be more of the same.

If this is the change they’re touting, then give me more of the status quo.

I would LOVE change, but not at the expense of everything I hold dear. I am NOT willing to give up my SUV, turn down my A.C., or live like some third world poster child.
