Terrorism Investigated in Case of Somali-Born Man Found Dead With Cyanide in Denver Hotel
foxnews.com ^ | August 14, 2008

FBI terrorism experts are investigating whether the death of a Somali-born Canadian citizen — whose body was found Monday in a Denver hotel room with about a pound of extremely toxic sodium cyanide — is connected to the upcoming Democratic National Convention.

An FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force has been sent to Denver, although Special Agent Kathy Wright said there's no information to conclude that Saleman Abdirahman Dirie had terrorist ties, the Rocky Mountain News reported.

While local law enforcement officials tried to downplay the incident, stressing that there was no sign of foul play in the death of Dirie, a Defense Department contractor said it's likely a terror plot could have been in the works, considering the toxicity and reported amount of cyanide found with the 29-year-old from Ottawa.

"I don't see how anybody could do anything but look into the possibility that this is a potential terrorist attack," Dr. Andrew Ternay told CBS 4 News in Denver.

The FBI, however, said Wednesday that there's probably no reason for them to go back to the fourth-floor room at the Burnsley Hotel, where Dirie was found.

The hotel is located about four blocks from the Denver state Capitol.

"It's an isolated incident," Denver Police Detective John White told the newspaper. They refused to speculate on why he had such a large quantity of the poisonous substance with him in the swanky all-suite hotel so soon before the convention in Denver, Aug. 25-28.

"We don't think it's any act of terrorism," Sonny Jackson, a spokesman for the Denver Police Department, told FOXNews.com. "We have no reason to believe it was. Nobody knows what was in this gentleman's mind."

From the article:

In July, a person calling himself "Abdirahman Dirie" posted an online comment with a blog that discussed the killing of Christians by Islamic Courts and Islamists in Somalia. It was not known whether it was the same person as the Dirie found dead in Denver.

Idiot b!tch! One does not need to have “terrorist ties” to be a terrorist. A terrorist can act on his own. Of course, he might have a terrorist ascot, or terrorist socks.

LOL. Your language may have been a bit strong, but your point was spot on.

No al-Qaida union card, no terrorism, no problem, right?

Sodium cyanide? Isolated incident? I can’t think of a single person I know that carries sodium cyanide around with them. Morons.

I'm certain he was there to kill cockroaches in the hotel...why else would he have a pound of cyanide> (sarcasm)

Yeah, you’re right. I’m sure she was just sayin’ what her boss told her to say (and right up on the line!)
But,,, I’m sick and tired of hearing that bs.

The 19 9/11 highjackers weren’t identified as “terrorists” with terrorist ties either until they flew airplanes into buildings were they?

Anybody with a pound of cyanide IS up to no good, unless he owns an exterminating business.

He may be a lone terrorist, not working or connected to others, but he is still up to something that can kill a LOT of people. So, he’s a terrorist, like the guy in Las Vegas found with ricin.

Anybody with a pound of cyanide IS up to no good,

Do a google on 'cyanide case hardening.'

I used to have a couple of pounds of the stuff myself. It's long gone, but I used it for perfectly legitimate purposes.

That being said, this one sure looks like a potential mass murder was stopped either by God himself or another Al Queda 'work accident'.

Actually there is some prima facie evidence that this incident was not “isolated.”

How did this Muslim immigrant on welfare get the money to come to the US and stay in an expensive hotel, without his family’s knowledge?

Where did he get the sodium cyanide, a known terrorist weapon that was used by that Japanese sect that made the news some years ago, and was also used by Saddam Hussein against the Kurds?

Canada is pretty clueless, but would a pharmacy or other source sell anyone who came in off the street a pound of sodium cycanide, or the materials to make it? I doubt it. Could an out-of-work Sudanese layabout make it without help? I doubt it.

Never pack your cocaine and your cyanide in the same luggage......

“Yeah, just another suicide like the guy that blew his own head off at OU a while back.”

He did more than blow his head off. He vaporised himself and the concrete bench he was sitting on. The blast was heard 4 miles away and the FBI had to use a tractor trailer to empty his apartment. The irony was he was denied admission to the game x 2 because he wouldn't let security check his backpack for alcohol. I find it annoying when people say “At least there haven’t been anymore attacks since 9/11”

Or check cyanide and electroplating. Just your average Somali metal worker coming down from Ottawa to Denver to work...

Re: isolated incident. A terrorist plot in Rome was foiled in 2002. The 4 Moroccans were planning to use powdered cyanide to poison the water supply in a commercial district that included the US Embassy.

Not true!!! Military Intel. knew at least a couple of them as terrorists. Able Danger had identified them.
