Big-box, home-improvement stores in Los Angeles will have to set aside space for day laborers under an ordinance passed by the City Council on Wednesday...
The shelters must be easily accessible and include drinking water, bathrooms, tables, seating and trashcans. The stores may be required to work with Los Angeles police in developing a security plan, according to the unanimous vote by the 15-member lawmaking body...

While that sounds good, ALL THE ICE AGENTS AND BORDER PATROL OFFICERS NEED TO DO IS GO TO HOME DEPOT AND DO THEIR JOB.
Do they?
You're right -- "contingent workers" seems to be the PC term for illegal alien day laborers.
Why not arrest them? Why not arrest the people who hire them? Why not spend the $180 grand a year the City spends to maintain these things to help “the poor contingent workers” get legal? Why not tax the companies that hire them?
Answer: Because they are Dems, and the the City is firmly in the hands of DNC backed Mexican-American illegal supporters who will vote for them again, and again, and again!
This is a public taking.
If LA wants an illegal alien shelter they have to pay for the land they take.
California, specifically Malabu Beach, had their *ss handed to them over 15 years ago on this taking by regulation nonsense.
I hope home depot fights this.
If it's a declared "Sanctuary City", it'll have to....even the ACLU couldn't beat that rap.
(Actually....this is all old news; this has been going on in south California for almost two years.)
The measure, which several officials said was aimed at Home Depot and its 11 stores in the city, will apply only to stores of 100,000 square feet or larger that will be built - or if existing stores are undergoing major renovation...
But Councilman Bernard Parks, who spearheaded the four-year push for the measure, said he saw it as the first step toward requiring existing stores to create similar centers.
"Phase Two is aimed at those stores," Parks said...
imagine this from a business point of view.
WHY would a consumer hire the Home Depot instalation service when WILLING ILLEGAL ALIEN LABOR is available at 1/5th the price in the parking lot.
LA is requiring Home Depot to essentially subsidize illegal alien labor.
i am speechless
forcing private companies to do the jobs that the local, and feds wish they could do, but can only fleece so much
or, like in the phx area, the police have report stations in local businesses where the officer can come in and work without having to drive to the precinct
like the way you think
“WHY would a consumer hire the Home Depot instalation service when WILLING ILLEGAL ALIEN LABOR is available at 1/5th the price in the parking lot.”
It’s pretty obvious to me. Home Depot is getting it’s bread buttered on both sides.
If the illegals were not on Home Depot property, looking for jobs so that they can remain in the US illegally, this would not be an issue.
As Home Depot does allow illegals to congregate on their property, it is an issue and it is now going to cost them.
soon they will be commandeering your house for the day laborers, bank account, vehicle, .....
Excellent now ICE knows where to go to pick them all up.
would this include any other stores such as walmart, or just home depot
in chandler, hundreds line arizona ave, we don’t have a home depot their
the problem was supposed to be fixed when the “day labor” center was built
as far as i can’t tell, hundreds still line the street, across from a (3000+ students) high school
when chandler tried with the border patrol to do something, about 10 years ago, they were stung, most every time there is a mention of the problem (loitering), the pro-illegal advocates bring up the “round-up” as they called it,
makes chandler gun-shy, but not sheriff joe
the is a clear taking by the city. The case law STILL prohibits taking by regulation in order to avoid actually paying for the land taken.
double edged sword for them, if they tried to get them off, protests
then leave them alone, now the “day laborers” have “rights”
right to someone else’s property, money
reminds me of real estate law, if you own land, and allow people to use your land as a passage for so many years and don’t do anything, it becomes “their right of way” even though it’s your property
How can the government force private industry to create shelters on their own private property?!
But I guess this comes naturally to Democrats, they think everything belongs to the government.
Obama made a speech about energy a while ago, and he said something along the lines that he will DIRECT the government AND PRIVATE industry to invest in the new energy, etc. The point is that he thinks that there are no private rights.
“Francisco Uribe, senior manager of government relations for The Home Depot, said the corporation does not oppose the day laborer centers.”
Spineless! I thought at least Home Depot would sue the Los Angeles government for usurping private property rights, unfair taxation and a few dozen other illegal actions.
