Colin Powell to endorse Obama at Dem convention, per Bill Krystal (on Fox now).

Sources say former Secretary of State Colin Powell will endorse Barack Obama at the Democratic National Convention, Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol told FOX News exclusively on Thursday.

“He may well give a speech at the Democratic convention explaining his endorsement of Obama,” Kristol m a FOX News contributor, said, citing inside sources.

“This is not an absolute done deal, but these people are very confident that Powell will endorse Obama,” Kristol said, adding that he thinks Powell, a Republican, still has “a high respect” for John McCain, Obama’s Republican rival.

Powell immediately denied the report.

“I do not have time to waste on Bill Kristol’s musings,” Powell told ABC News. “I am not going to the convention. I have made this clear.”

Roll Call executive editor Mort Kondracke, also a FOX News contributor, said he personally has spoken with Powell, who denied the report and said he has made no endorsement decisions, according to Kondracke......."

Don’t forget that fabulous Plame story was likely orchestrated by Powell.

Or are we to believe his deputy acted on his own?

I agree.

Kristol is always trying to be relevant and sound in the know. Tough gig these days.

Question for Mr. Kristol: If Powell does not attend the DNC convention and endorse Obama, then will you go away?

Now that we know the rumor is BS per Powell's camp, the question becomes, who started the rumor and what is their motivation?

“There's absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There's absolutely no truth to this.”

Powell spokeswoman Peggy Cifrino strongly denied the report.

“There’s absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There’s absolutely no truth to this.”

Funny how they hid that in the story.

"Yet Powell and Armitage let this sham investigation go forward. Neither are honorable men in my book."

Precisely why Axelrot is trying to stir some shit, frustrated as hell that Barry went aloha to fix his DOB, while McCain is very busy flipping flippable Michigan...

It seems to me that many black republicans are hesitant to say who they will vote for either way. I wondering if they feel it is a no win situation for them.

Looks like Billy Kristol's sources were BS once again.

Although, I can't say I would have been surprised if Powell endorsed Obama. Jim Geraghty talks about why over at NRO.

Its more shocking how many will blindly follow something someone in the MSM says.

I am saying that he was close to Powell and would possibly know if Powell was going to endorse Obama.

Don't be too hard on Bill, although he might deserve it. he did not say Powell would be at the convention, he said it was a possibility that he might.

The story is that Powell does plan to endorse Obamma. Fox was the one who put up the lead as the convention and not the endorsement.

I heard JC Watts on Hannity yesterday and when Hannity asked him for whom he was going to vote, Watts would not answer and he sounded like he was seriously considering voting for Nobama.

Have we stopped using secret ballots?

If true about Powell, I would be surprised but not shocked. Kristol went on to say that John McCain is considering a pro choice for VP. Now that would be a shock because it would risk, unnecessarily, losing more votes than he would gain. I think that I will take all of this from Kristol with a grain of salt and wait for confirmation.

Powell’s spokesperson denies this story. Kristol may have jumped the gun.

OK, what is even more shocking is I went over to DU and they all where skeptical long before most of us where... the Powell camp statement was the second post over there.

“There's absolutely no truth to it whatsoever,” Cifrino told FOXNews.com. “Colin Powell will not be at either convention. There's absolutely no truth to this.”

Powell cannot give more than $2300 to a single campaign until the official nominee is chosen at the convention. :)

That is the law...right now we’re still (technically) in the primary campaign.

Yes. Real snake in the grass. The “in” thing with the elites and reporters, whom he cultivated, is to support Obama. And if the Dems are dangling a speaking opportunity at their convention - how might he resist?
