Pelosi's Ethics Rules? (Vanity)
a Grahamnesty DC staffer | 13 Aug 2008 | self

Does anyone have a line on "Pelosi's ethics rules" and their prohibition regarding discussing the election? A Graham DC staffer claimed he could be fired for such discussion. Does anyone know where these 'rules' can be found for review?

I just vented to Graham's offices in SC and DC. The state office wouldn't discuss legislation and the DC office claimed they were getting the rats to vote for drilling... and this tripe about oxymoronic "Pelosi ethics" prohibiting discussing the election.

The election part really torques me - can't someone in SC take this democRat (that's the only way he should be allowed to be labled with an "R") down!

Pelosi is speaker of the House - Graham is in the Senate. Each house of Congress makes its own rules. So Pelosi’s rules, whatever they are, would have no effect on Graham.

This is the link to the Ethics manual for the House of Representatives, and the Pelosi staffer was obviously referring to Paragraph six (below)which prohibits use of any congressional office staff, funds or resources for any political (election-related) purpose.

http://www.house.gov/Ethics/Ethicforward.html

6. A Member of the House of Representatives shall keep his campaign funds separate from his personal funds. A Member shall convert no campaign funds to personal use in excess of reimbursement for legitimate and verifiable campaign expenditures and shall expend no funds from his campaign account not attributable to bona fide campaign or political purposes.

I guess, from the Graham staffer’s perspective I’ve allowed my lack of knowledge to identify me as “not an insider” (which considering what is in DC, I’m proud to be).

But as opposed to being concerned about a South Carolina constituent’s views, the staffer fabricated a lie, pretty much out of whole cloth, in an attempt to divert my complaint about Graham’s sellout of the most important issue this election against the Democrats as a whole.

This is representative of the kind of elitist prig the folks ‘down home’ are electing.

Is there any hope with an electorate that appears to pay no attention, even when the guy who has been knifing them in the back for six years is about to be selected for another half dozen?

Hello, South Carolina, anybody home?
