The head of Georgia's national security council said Wednesday Russia has sent 50 tanks into the central Georgian city of Gori, despite an agreed-upon ceasefire calling on both sides to retreat to positions they held before fighting began six days ago.
Security council head Alexander Lomaia said that the tanks entered Gori about 9:45 a.m. local time, but there was no independent confirmation of his claim.

Thanks....That brings me up to date for the most part. It seems like a pretty fair appraisal.
“We should be annihilating the russian forces that remain in Georgia. They need to pull out NOW, or be wiped out by American Forces.”
How?
Where will the assets to wipe them out come from? How will they get there? How long will it take to move sufficient assets there, and what steps could russia take to neutralize a military build-up which would undoubtably take days?
This ignores collateral consequences, of course.
And theyre getting away with it.
Exactly.
LOL ;-)
We have air assets sufficient to run them out of Georgia that are within range, in fact only a few hundred miles. But that's not the issue. The issue is to avoid a direct conflict if we can, and accomplish the same thing.
It's underway now. All we can do is hope that sanity rules, but I would not count on it.
I have to make a major and important point here.
The Russians are obviously not currently worried about consequences. In order to counter this, we cannot be worried either. If we do that, they win this by default.
We have people who understand the Russians very well, and they are doing what they need to do. We can only watch and wait.
Here’s coverage you can look at. I’m sorry I can’t answer your question directly because I’m not in Georgia and cannot really confirm anything. -Cindy

“Bush Orders Military to Deliver Aid to Georgia”

WASHINGTON
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The administration also spent Wednesday morning trying to document whether Russia is violating the cease-fire it agreed to institute with the former Soviet Republic. FOX News confirmed that Russian tanks entered the city of Gori, just 40 miles from Tbilisi, on Wednesday, after they were supposed to have withdrawn.”

Thank you for all the links.:) You are doing an awesome job compiling information as always.
I just found this thread from Monday:
“Russians move 2 SS-21 Medium Range Ballistic Missile Launchers into South Ossentia”

Yes, I saw that in blog search, but I’m not familiar with that blog.
Thanks for pointing it out.
totally agreed, my rhetorical list of questions was directed at the previous poster I responded to, who pretty much advocated WW III today (not tomorrow). Even world-wars take time to move assets into position.
I have to cut them some degree of slack. I am very upset about this as well. These folks are my ancestors as my Grand parents came here or more specifically fled from there in 1921. I have no friends there, but I hate seeing this happen again.
The Russians bombed and destroyed the Georgian port in Georgia proper and have been blowing up Georgian ships in the port. The Russians have a port now in the North Western Autonomous Region of Georgia. They just cleared all the Georgian troops from that entire region.
It is over. Russia won’t go to the Georgian capital (to many heads of state there), but will tear the heck out of Georgia. Our aid will calm things down, but quite frankly we won’t do much else.
“That would explain why the journos havent seen anything.”
True, but another explanation is that the journalists had their eyes closed when the Russian tanks passed by.
“BBC correspondent has visually confirmed this. Large number of armored vehicles moving at speed on the main highway from Gori to Tbilisi . . .
whats the play . . . whether they are going into the captial our not this is not going to play well internationally. They may have had some modicum of support up to the cease fire, but it doesnt look like Georgia breached the cease fire . .”
I am still wondering why the sovereign country of Russia is in the sovereign country of Georgia at all, for any reason.
We could... And Should provide air support for the Georgian ground forces out of bases in Iraq. Turkey is a Nato Nation and could provide the air route.
Our air forces alone could decimate the russian ground forces, air and naval assets. Allowing the Georgian ground forces to retake Georgia.
Sure.. What Ive stated is simplistic in its description but essentially correct. We do have the capability to completely obliterate the russian forces in that area through conventional means. We simply lack the will to do it. as of yet....
If Russia wants to escalate from there, so be it.
I refuse to appease russia in the same way that Germany was appeased before WWII. Each aggression against a free nation should be met with equal aggression in defense of that nation. We should not hope for them to stop, we should MAKE them stop.
