He was a very big fish indeed! He was bin Laden’s finance director. He reported directly to bin Laden.

He's a big fish all right. He managed all of the financing for al Qaeda.

I'm waiting until a more credible source confirms this before I celebrate his demise. Reuters isn't what I consider credible at all.

I fervently hope it's true, though.

Shaikh Saiid al-Masri managed al-Qaeda’s payroll and paid al-Qaeda members, including al-Fadl, their salaries.

To quote Stinger from TOP GUN:

"Son, your ego is writing checks your body can't cash."

KHAR, Pakistan: Pakistani helicopter gunships attacked militants’ hideout in a volatile tribal region yesterday and killed around 50 insurgents, taking the death toll to nearly 160 in five days of fighting, officials said.
More than 100 militants and nine soldiers were killed in fighting sparked by an attack on a security checkpoint on Wednesday in Bajaur tribal region, near the Afghan border. Bajaur is a known sanctuary for Al Qaeda and Taliban militants.

“The helicopter gunships pounded positions of the militants in Bajaur and killed about 50 of them,” a security official said. There were no casualties from the security forces, he said.

The fresh clashes erupted after militants attacked another post overnight.

A Reuters reporter said thousands of people were fleeing from the area after aircraft bombed four villages.
Separately, residents found the beheaded bodies of two men in an area 16km west of Khar, Bajaur’s main town, with a note that they had been killed for spying for US and Pakistani forces.

“The note said the men were helping forces ... identify militant positions,” said Mohamed Khan, a local resident.

My favorite Stinger line from that movie has always been:

“You screw up just this much, you’ll be flying a cargo plane full of rubber dog sh*t out of Hong Kong.”

Then there's:

Stinger: How long will it take?

Officer: It'll take ten minutes.

Stinger: Bull sh*t ten minutes! This thing will be over in two minutes! Get on it!

Great news in a really lousy week.

Al Masri means Egyptian. why doesn’t the US give Egypt some more money.

AKA's: Mustafa Muhammad Ahmad1, Sheik Sayyid el Masry, Shaykh Sai'id, Sheikh Saeed al Masri

Used to be head of the AQ finance committee and was on AQ's original shura council.

Belongs to the group of 14, or so, AQ leaders below Z and UBL.

He is old school AQ since the early 90s. This is an important hit as he was the closest to UBL next to Z. UBL and Z got to know the noose is really getting tight.

Been awhile since we got someone from the insiders group.

BTW, Z's purported new "message" has him audio only, speaking in English. My info has him dead, AQ is using stand-ins.

BBC 22 July 2008: Al-Qaeda leader in TV interview

Mustafa Abu al-Yazid is also known by the alias Sheikh Saeed.

He confirmed that an al-Qaeda operative carried out the 2 June suicide attack on the Danish embassy in Islamabad.

"We are proud of that attack, and I had congratulated my colleagues for conducting it successfully," he said.

"We had chosen a time for the attack when there would be no innocent Muslims around," he added. All of the eight people who died in the attack were reported to have been Muslims.

Shortly after the attack Mustafa Abu al-Yazid said on the internet that the attack was in revenge for the reprinting by Danish newspapers of a cartoon of the Prophet Muhammad considered blasphemous by many Muslims.

MSNBC July 21, 2008:Al-Qaida senior leader grants rare TV interview:

In the interview, Yazid, also known as Sheikh Saeed, called for the destruction of Pakistan's government which he said had "betrayed" the jihadis. Yazid swore that al-Qaida would recapture Afghanistan. And he reiterated al-Qaida's position that "all Americans, not just the American government" are the enemies of Islam.

Unlucky Number 3:
Since 2001, the U.S. has killed or captured five of the terror group's Number 3s:

--In November 2001, U.S. fighter jets bombed the hideout of Mohammed Atef in Kabul, killing him.

--In February 2002, CIA and Pakistani intelligence officials captured Abu Zubaydah in the Pakistani city of Faisalabad, following a gunfight in which Zubaydah was severely wounded.

--In March 2003, CIA and Pakistani intelligence officers captured Khalid Sheikh Mohammed in a house in Rawalpindi, Pakistan.

--In May 2005, Pakistan intelligence officers captured Abu Faraj al-Libi as he rode a motorbike through a cemetery in the Pakistani city of Mardan. (Haithem al-Yemeni, a potential successor to al-Libi, was killed by a Predator in Pakistan near the Afghanistan border a week later).

--In December 2005, Hamza Rabia, Abu Faraj's successor, was killed in a Predator attack in the village of Asorai, in western Pakistan near the town of Mirali.

Today, U.S. officials say that the current No. 3, Yazid, is a target of the U.S. as well.

Thank the Lord! For all the libs whining about how we haven’t been doing enough in Pakistan, seems like we’re doing a pretty good job killing bad guys there, or getting the Pakistanis to kill them for us. Like Ann Coulter says, invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity. Two down, one to go.

I wonder if Obama is going to denounce Pakistan for ‘just air raiding villages and killing civilians’, or if he only uses that condemnation for American forces.
