Col. Sam Gardiner notes, in an interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, Russia has deployed tactical nuclear weapons to South Ossetia. The SS-21 Missile launchers are relatively small compared to bombs that have already been used against Georgia by the Russian air force. However, this move does indicate Russia is potentially upping the game from a conventional weapons war to a tactical nuclear weapons war. Gardiner notes that at a news conference on Sunday, the US Deputy National Security advisor has noted these weapons arriving in South Ossetia.

Yep, he’s killing a number of birds with one stone.
Thanks for the ping!
SS-21’s ?
This makes clear two things:
1. Putin is desperate to have the old imperial Soviet Union back
2. Now we have to respond with a real substantive move in the area.
"...Spears shall be shaken, shields shall be splintered! A sword day... a red day... and the sun rises! Ride now... Ride now... Ride! Ride for ruin and the world's ending! Death!"
Or are we just going to sit there and watch a free country be eaten alive by russia?
They are being deployed as a threat against Isreal, in case of an Isreali strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. This game has many more facets then our vaunted 70 IQ news media is capable of understanding.
The Russian’s will take Georgia, if there is no legitimate action from the West. Following that they will incorporate Azerbaijan, by force, if necessary. This will then leave Iran and Russia with mutual borders and will leave the West with no viable wedge between the two.
The defense pact signed by Russia and Iran in 2006 and the sale of $1bn in missiles by Russia to the Iranians was the first step in bridging an Russo-Persian alliance that could legitimately threaten the West by cutting off the Middle East oil supply and make it stick.
Rather than make silly little quips, people need to pull their heads out and realize what is going on and the long term ramifications for the economy and our day to day lives.
IF this is true, that would be disturbing....BUT I wouldnt trust anything on democracy now. Amy Goodman and Democracy Now are crazy leftist loons of the Cindy She-he-han type.
This isn’t a dedux of the Cuban Missile Crisis in the sense that Bush doesn’t have to worry about ‘who blinks first’. It’s not that kind of crisis. Instead, there is a clear response indicated, and that is, we take out their SS-21’s before they can do any mischief, end-of-story.
We expel their diplomats, end-of-story.
We declare our solidarity with the people of Georgia, and pledge our intention to come to their aid in this time of peril and invasion from a foreign state, END-OF-STORY.
Europe also needs to act because this is in their backyard.
Some say GOG....MAGOG. Our unheard of weapons would be a shock to Iran. Russia may not move on that.
I agree that there’s more here than meets the eye. We need to front a bold, in-your-face response. No arguing, no posturing, just actions.
3 major strike carriers groups are on their way to the Persian Gulf. 5 major strike carrier groups will be in the Persian Gulf sometime this week.... expect action maybe sometime this week end or next week, the Olympics are a diversion to keep China busy with their military in Beijing.
I can haz sources plz?
