They can’t deliver anywhere near the explosive power of conventional munitions as ground attack aircraft. Since it appears that the Russians control the air there is no way these SSMs are an improvement over aircraft. This is a message to us,much the same as Ike’s sending the atomic cannon to Korea in 53. Ball’s in our court.

With the Poles and the Czechs things would be a little different. They are officially NATO members and an attack against one is considered an attack against all. It’s extremely unlikely the ‘Soviets’ would take on a NATO country. Georgia unfortunately wasn’t one yet.

At a guess, I’d say Putie is up to what would be expected of an old school KGB sociopath, when stripped of all that icky ideological silliness.
Pure, plain, old fashioned emperor on the usual border expansion kick. Won’t stop until he drops, or is dropped.

Now we will see which of the countries of Europe may want to have a missile shield.

Putin’s a goof. Whoever described Russia now as a “Thugocracy” is right-on.
This is obviously a raise to our anti-missile ante in Eastern Europe.
Unfortunately for Herr Putin, his little escapade has only hardened the resolve of the rest of the former Communist states. And if he decides to start playing with the oil flow this winter he will be isolated.
This will actually be a good thing in the long run. Europe and America will finally start drilling for more petroleum on their own.

I don’t think that is supposed to be an SS-21. Someone on another board said it was a delivery system for cluster munitions.
Take that for what it’s worth.
