McCain Statement on Georgia
Realclearpolitics.com ^ | 8/11/2008 | John McCain

Whatever tensions and hostilities might have existed between Georgians and Ossetians, they in no way justify Moscow's path of violent aggression. Russian actions, in clear violation of international law, have no place in 21st century Europe.

You may not be a fool in real life but you certainly play one on Freerepublic.

That's what I wanted to say, but couldn't think of it :-)

We can deploy more assets than they can imagine. Airpower alone would present the Russians with a major problem. We have one of our unencumbered carrier fleets steaming to that area as we speak. We will see.

Putin may be betting on an Obama win this November, then there will be no opposition whatever the rebirth of the new Socialist Soviet.

Here's Obama's response to the Russina invasion of Georgia:

"If the Russians EVER try invading one of our other 57 states, we'll have to do something drastic. Like call an emergency peace conference or something! They've invaded the capital? We can't have Atlanta burning again! That's unacceptable!"

..."ah, mr. obama schw, schw, schw"....

"Say WHAT?" Not THAT Georgia! For real, bro? You pullin' my leg again?" They only ONE Georgia, ev'rybody know dat! Damn! You messin wit the 'ol Messiah! heh, heh."

It would be more like sending American citizens to live in a particular area or region in Cuba until Americans became a 90% majority. That particular region then seeks to be recognized as American territory and Cuba makes a military move to retake that region.

Americans then have to protect Americans and bomb Cuba into oblivion, because, after all, we are just protecting Americans. Clinton was wrong in Serbia, as is Bush and so are the Russians in Georgia.

You might want to locate Georgia on a map. Because I don't know of any carriers heading for the Black Sea.

Wow! I just found an article that actually uses the words "imperial ambition" in conjunction with Russia. Chance for John McCain's credentials to shine

'For years, the Republican senator has been warning that Russia's imperial ambition was a destabilising force and he was quick to denounce the Russian attacks in the former soviet Republic last week - far more forcefully than his Democratic rival, Senator Obama.'
...
'...while Senator Obama's camp simultaneously released a mild, four-sentence statement urging an immediate end to armed conflict and stressing that Georgia's territorial integrity "must be respected". '

I agree. Clinton and Bush were wrong regarding Serbia. Some of Condi Rice's statements revealed just how stupid she is.

Absolutely, and the fact that we still have people on FR, still spouting, the “Condi for VP” meme is un-freaking-believable.

Here's an article which seems to take a similar view:

Serbia: South Ossetia conflict, result of Kosovo's seccession, analysts claim

Belgrade, 11 August (AKI) – The deadly conflict between Russia and Georgia in the breakaway province of South Ossetia is an indirect result of Kosovo's declaration of independence in February, Serbian analysts and politicians said on Monday.

“If there wasn’t a ‘Kosovo precedent’, as the greatest world powers headed by the United States called the secession of a part of Serbian territory, there wouldn’t have been a war in South Ossetia,” Oliver Ivanovic, Serbian government official in charge of Kosovo told the Belgrade daily Blic.

Ivanovic said that Kosovo's example was “inspiring to South Ossetia, so they wanted to strain relations and to define their position.”

Georgia wanted to solve the problem of separatist South Ossetia by the use of force, just like Serbia had tried to do in Kosovo in 1999, he explained. .. Commentator Dragan Petrovic told Tanjug news agency that the United States had encouraged a conflict between Russia and Georgia to strengthen its influence in the region.

“The Americans want to drive a wedge between Georgia and Russia to improve their position in the area because of an oil pipeline, future actions against Iran, to isolate pro-Russian Armenia and to encourage the aspirations of the Muslim population in the North Caucasus,” Petrovic said.

Former Serbian foreign minister Goran Svilanovic said he now saw Georgia as a “Russian sphere of interest”.

He said it will soon “become clear to everyone in Russia, Georgia and the countries in the region”.

You posted this? Sorry. I didn’t search. I really like the McCain camps reaction to Obama’s little underhanded trick of trying to say McCain was only representing the views of the Georgian government because his advisor is a lobbyist for Georgia’s interests. Said they were like the Kremlin.

It’ll take more than that. You can’t do something like that and not follow up.

You can’t do something like that and not follow up.

You certainly can.

You just bomb the nuclear facilities and then act like it never happened. Just like Israel did to Iraq. We don't need to do anything else.

The threat to the United States from Iran is their nuclear ambitions. A few well placed tomahawk missles will lay those ambitions to rest for at least another decade, when we can repeat it again if necessary.

Obama will be exposed as a lightweight, that’s for sure.

Here is what I posted earlier:

Its the ‘liberal strategy’ AKA ‘America Fatigue’. Putin is banking on an Obama win. He knows that the ‘majority’ (based on the MSM) are tired of the Iraq war and wouldn’t have the stomach, let alone the balls, to support any action against Russia- thus tying the hands of President Obama. England won’t do a thing without us, nor will NATO or the UN.

Europe better be prepared for another iron curtain.

Well and let’s be honest here:

1. Russia knows the EU has no spine or backbone.
2. Russia knows that the US military is stretched thin. Even a US presence in the Mideast will not deter them.
3. Russia knows the political situation in the US, meaning, they know how unpopular the Iraq war is (allegedly).
4. Russia knows that an Obama win pretty much guarantees them unfettered stomping rights to any former province they choose to reincorporate.
5. Russia knows the UN will do nothing more than issue sanctions. And since they’re pretty much destitute, they have nothing to lose and everything to gain by using their military to gain assets.
6. Putin knows the likelihood of Bush doing anything militarily is slim, considering he’s leaving office soon as well as the growing Iranian nuclear threat (FYI, Russia’s war with Georgia will only embolden countries like Iran and Syria- knowing full well their actions will almost certainly go unpunished- and have the Russians supporting them covertly).

Russia honestly has nothing to lose. It sounds sick, but it was the right card for them to play. The wildcard? President Bush.
