Mac Eyeing Lieberman As VP: Aide

Maverick politicians of a feather may just fly together.

John McCain is said to be looking at former Democratic vice-presidential nominee-turned-McCain supporter Joe Lieberman as a possible running mate this fall.

The Financial Times, citing an unnamed adviser to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, said McCain was considering the now-independent senator from Connecticut because of their shared positions on Iraq, Israel and other issues.

McCain "loves Lieberman. And he is on the [short]list because Lieberman has never embarrassed anyone, never misspoken. The first rule is, don't take someone who costs you votes," the adviser said.

The adviser acknowledged that it would be an unorthodox choice - considering that Lieberman still caucuses with the Democratic majority in the Senate - and would probably meet with great resistance from elements of the GOP.

A ridiculous idea; Joe could make a decent SecDef, though.

Lieberman is a liberal --- pro-taxes, pro-welfare state, pro-abortion, pro-gun control etc etc etc. If McCain picks Joe, it will cost him many many conservative votes.

No. Please no.

I've had this sick feeling in my gut for the last few months that McCain is going to pick Lieberman.

Lieb is still a whiny Democrat. He whined about the election long after even Gore mostly gave it up.

I only agree with his pro hawk views on Israel, everything else is pure liberal.

"A ridiculous idea"\

Which just makes it likely; it is Comrade Juan McNuts we're talking about!

Picking Lieberman as the running mate is about the only thing that McCrazy could do to insure that he lost - miserably. It seems the left wing of the Republican party is bent on using 2008 to crush what’s left of the conservative base.

** ... I’ve had this sick feeling in my gut for the last few months that McCain is going to pick Lieberman...**

I’ve had the same thought. And that thought was followed by ... I’m GOING FISHING!! I CANNOT vote for Hussein, I Would rather Not vote for the Libertarian, and I WILL NOTE vote for a MCLAME/LIBERALMAN ticket.

May GOD help us, and USA ... R.I.P.

Lieberman would gain McCain nothing. For some reason, McCain has fallen into the trap that has tripped up so many Republicans--trying to appease the "middle" or the left.

Any democrat who would vote for McCain is going to be convinced to do so because Obama is such an empty suit. What McCain needs to do is find someone young and dynamic, someone who agrees with McCain on those issues where McCain is conservative, yet who appeals as someone who could be our next president if it comes to that.

What he doesn't need is another aging dude. And could someone tell McCain that Lieberman was a VP pick once, and it didn't work out too well.

Picking Leiberman would be a slap in the face to any conservative. I’m young enough to wait 4 years.

Here's what's going to happen. McCain will pick Lieberman, and Obama will pick Chuck Hagel.

At which point, we'll all realize we're on Candid Camera and this whole thing has been a giant practical joke.

“What he doesn’t need is another aging dude.”

Exactly. Very bad idea. Please say it ain’t so John.

Now Romney would be a better vote getter.

I hope he does not choose JL. He is at the very least a social liberal and he is a Dem which has no place on the Republican ticket. I think that would hurt both men politically. The Dems will turn on Joe (who cares) and McCain will be ridiculed and cause his party to be ridiculed because it will look like he can’t find a Republican to choose.

NO, we will see the voting booth open, and ROD SERLING will appear saying “You’re in ...the TWILIGHT ZONE.

Actually, McLAME would be better off picking PARIS HILTON, at least she has a better energy Policy than Hussein O does.

The most important thing to me is to keep Obama out of the White House. Him there, assuming predictions hold, will give the ‘Rats total control. Total. Think SC judges for a start.

McCain is not the ideal candidate but just maybe a move like this would wipe out any Obama appeal to the thinking independents and swing voters etc.

Many Dem-leaning people I know have said this would do it for them to vote GOP this time as BO makes them nervous.

McCain should hold off any VP announcement until we know what and who emerges from Denver !

(Where’s my fireproof suit ?)

Romney is capable of being the attack dog we need in this fight; I just hope, if he’s chosen, he actually attacks. We don’t need another “Let’s be friends” candidate. McCain’s been doing better at the attack stuff, but he’s not there yet.
