USA: Texas execution violates international law

The execution of José Ernesto Medellín Rojas by the state of Texas is a violation of international law, said Amnesty International today. "It undermines the authority of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) which had ruled in favour of a stay of execution."

The real war we wage is against the dissolution of the nation state in favor of world governance. International courts are just one way to expedite the process.Sorry to be so bold but if we cant convince the freedom loving people of the world why Locke is better than Rousseau or Marx then even our second amendment cant save US. President Bush's hands are not exactly "clean" on this one either.... of course he did not take any "action" to enfoce his assertion...

I have determined, pursuant to the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, that the United States will discharge its international obligations under the decision of the International Court of Justice in [Avena], by having State courts give effect to the decision in accordance with general principles of comity in cases filed by the 51 Mexican nationals addressed in that decision.

Yep, Texas executed another one from Honduras [Heliberto Chi] the next night after Medellin who attempted the same approach in his appeal but it was also rejected by the SCOTUS....

I think President Bush was just stating that the law was being followed.

He already had a Texas ‘execution’ issue back when he was Governor.

you might be right... I have read some articles that suggest the execution was in defiance of a “request” by President Bush.. who admitedly stated that he has no authority to compel the State to comply his request... I could not find a good source for that statement though... anyone know anything about that “request” ??
