Pioneering musician Isaac Hayes dead at 65

Isaac Hayes, the pioneering singer, songwriter and musician whose relentless "Theme From Shaft" won Academy and Grammy awards, died Sunday, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office said. He was 65.

What did he die of, and why was the sheriff reporting it? Usually that only happens when either the death is not natural, or the cops find the body.

What I read so far was that a family member found him at his home. He was found unresponsive next to a treadmill.
Cause of death is yet to be determined.

Is it common practice for the Sheriff’s Office to announce the death?
Bernie Mac’s publicist announced his.
Maybe because Hayes was unexpected.

I wouldn't say it is common practice, but it isn't uncommon.
I'm guessing that 911 was called which undoubtedly got law enforcement involved.
I personally suspect that foul play is not involved.
