Washington, Aug. 9: Barack Obama is to defy the critics who have branded him a shallow celebrity politician by holding the most star-studded political convention in American history.
A list obtained by The Daily Telegraph shows an unprecedented number of Hollywood personalities and rock stars being lined to play a role in the Denver convention, where Obama will formally receive the partys nomination at the end of the month.
The decision to let some of them take to the centre stage is a calculated gamble by Obama to stick to his guns in courting the celebrity vote. It comes after his Republican rival John McCain landed a telling blow last week, mocking him as the Paris Hilton of the White House race in a so-called attack ad.
Obamas strategists have concluded that the publicity gains from rubbing shoulders with actors like George Clooney, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon will outweigh the risks of appearing lightweight.
The list of those approved for credentials to attend the event includes the actress Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently filmed a campaign advertisement for Obama.
Hollywood royalty, including Quentin Tarantino, Spike Lee, Warren Beatty, Susan Sarandon, Forrest Whitaker and Scarlett Johansson, will also be in Denver, as well as singers Kanye West and Wyclef Jean. Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones may also put in an appearance.

talk about low-hanging fruit! exactly what you’d expect from a slacker.
This is going to work well /x
the beer-guzzling, red neck hillary folks come to mind.
"Popular stars support me so I am popular and you should support me", kinf of thing.
But the crisis in Georgia punctuates the seriousness of the situation and the emptiness of Obama.
In such times, which do we want actually leading, which one of these two men do you want at the helm?
Obama is even more out of touch than I imagined if he thinks having Kanye West Susan Sarandon Spike Lee and Wycleaf Jean are going to do anything but turn off independents.
Wow. Can he really be this stupid?
I am beginning to believe it is fate for the Dems to lose this thing.
I hope the cameras pan to all the rapt celebrities as the One gives his acceptance speech at a torch-lit stadium filled with thousands of screaming faithful making the two-handed “O” sign.
Just like at Nuremberg.
Shhhhhhhhhhhh....
;-)
If that's the case, then the Obama campaign staff is dumber than a truck load of bricks. None of the aforementioned Celebutards (A Limbaughism) has had a single hit film in years. These hacks are by far some of the most annoying of the Glitterati that more often than not lectures America on her 'deficiencies' and 'sins'. Or translated: "We're not like Europe so therefore we suck."
Roll out the red carpet in front of the convention center, and get Ryan Seacrest on the phone. Do you suppose we could get Paris to make a special appearance?
Manna from heaven. The inexperience of his staff is telling if he thinks this is going to sell in working class America.
Such a manly man, to bravely defy his critics!
Obama-Hilton '08: We Be Stylin' Now!
Look it’s obvious. Obama wants to appear more serial, uh serious by associating with people who have more “gravitas” than the annointed one. Fortunately, he didn’t have to look far. A quick glance to his left found the deep thinking, highly educated Clooney and crowd.
The usual suspects...
All these so-called “celebs” will be there...mainly because they don’t have enough people with any sense to attend. The Dim party’s Hollywood types are simply spotlight stealers who need PR and think, (because they are egomaniacs), that intelligent people give a hoot about their viewpoints - on anything.
Just give this dope enough rope...he is already hanging himself. And if he goes to Geneva he is toast..SSZ
