Long, Hot Summer:

Ben: All right then, run, lady, and you keep on running. Buy yourself a bus ticket and disappear. Change your name, dye your hair, get lost - and then maybe, just maybe, you’re gonna be safe from me.

I would absolutely rather die at home in my own bed surrounded by family if given the choice.

He contributed to George McGovern, Barak Obama, and the Brady Campaign. He was (is) on the Brady Campaign (HCI) national committee.

I'll say that he was mistaken in many respects. But he was a stand-up man and raised millions for many good causes. I respect him for his good works.

Prayers for him and his family.

Classy guy all the way around.
My son did some goofy thing eating a plate of frosting, the other guys were calling him Cool Hand Luke lol. So many of his films are classic “must see” movies.

True, he wasn’t as obnoxious as a lot of Hollywood leftists, but I stopped buying his products after he made remarks at a Clinton fundraiser, referring to Republicans/conservatives as “the bad guys.”

So from then on this bad guy figured he could direct his charitable instincts in other directions.

Still, a good actor, with a history of fine performances.

Thanks for “Slap Shot,” among others.

My favorite will always be “Hud”.

“My mama loved me but she died.”

“It was sad, dear Lord, it was sad, dear Lord;
It was sad when the great ship went down, to the bottom of the ...
Husbands and wives, little children lost their lives,
It was sad when that great ship went down.”

I love all Paul Newman movies. Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...his monologue to Big Daddy about why he drinks is a classic. The Long, Hot, Summer....never was he more handsome than in that movie. The Hustler, Someone Up there Likes Me...He makes every movie a great one. His later ones...Absence of Malice, THE VERDICT...and a great one that was not given half it’s due: NOBODY’S FOOL..LOVE THAT MOVIE...Road to Perdition, one of the most underrated movie of this decade. They’ll never be another Paul Newman. A class act..even in his politics, he walked it...and I can respect that.

"Rain drops keep falling on my head..."

That is the only blemish in an otherwise great movie!

bless the hospice workers

Amen. Sounds like the family will need the support.

We had three cancer deaths in three years starting in 2000 (Marlboro, Winston and Swisher Sweets) and sadly became more experienced with the process than we would have liked. There is no easy way to go but if I have any say when I go I'd rather be in my own home surrounded by people who love me.

Newman was a liberal for sure but Absence of Malice was unabashedly indicting of the media. I really liked that movie!

My favorite was “The Verdict”. Too bad he was infected early with the Hollywood liberal bug. He’s a good American, he should have been on our side.
